Jiangsu male police academy graduate unemployed after graduation, impersonating a police officer for over a decade.

A man surnamed Wang from Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, graduated from a police academy and became unemployed. In order to make a living, he impersonated a railway police officer for over a decade without being discovered. Even local government offices and official media believed in his false identity as a railway police officer. It wasn’t until recently that Wang’s true identity was uncovered.

According to Jiangsu media on June 13, information from the Wujin District Prosecutor’s Office in Changzhou revealed that Wang’s cover was blown due to problems with an investment platform he recommended to his girlfriend.

Currently, Wang has been sentenced for the crime of “impersonation and fraud.”

It was learned that over a decade ago, Wang graduated from a police officer academy in Hubei Province. He once applied for a job at a railway public security bureau but didn’t start working there because the unit couldn’t create a position for him.

However, Wang kept the police uniform he used during his school days and even obtained a police shoulder badge from a teacher upon graduation. He then made a fake police officer ID card and promoted himself as a railway police officer.

With the complete equipment and excellent acting skills, no one ever doubted his identity. Even train conductors would frequently open the passage for him to enter the station.

In 2019, Wang and his girlfriend, Qin Qing (alias), who came from a well-off family, became a couple. He would take his girlfriend on “free” train rides, claiming his fake police officer status.

At that time, Wang also arranged for his girlfriend’s company to donate epidemic prevention materials to a local government office. Wang, dressed in his police uniform, took photos with the staff, and the pictures were used on the street office’s official website. This deepened his girlfriend’s trust in Wang’s identity.

While they were together, his girlfriend, considering Wang’s limited income as a civil servant, took care of all their expenses, including food, clothing, housing, and shopping. Whenever Wang needed money, his girlfriend would transfer it immediately.

In September 2021, at Wang’s strong recommendation, his girlfriend and family made substantial investments on a certain investment platform. However, a month later, the platform suddenly shut down, and their investment funds could not be withdrawn. Wang promised to refund the investment funds.

Months passed, and Wang failed to fulfill his promise. Conflicts arose between Wang and his girlfriend, leading to their breakup. Subsequently, his girlfriend lost contact with Wang and realizing that she might have been deceived, she immediately reported the case to the police.

Upon investigation, Wang admitted to impersonating a railway police officer all along. Since he had been unemployed after graduation, for a decade, he focused on playing the role of a good cop, often displaying his police uniform, police officer ID card, and even queued up overnight multiple times to buy tickets to uphold the lie of “getting free train tickets.”

The prosecution deemed Wang’s actions to be socially harmful, and he was charged with “impersonation and fraud.” On March 29, Wang was prosecuted, and recently, he was sentenced to one year and three months in prison.
