Jiang Mianheng, Eldest Son of Jiang Zemin, Faces Changing Job Role Amid Negative Rumors

Before the third plenary session of the Communist Party of China, there have been recent changes in the job of Jiang Zemin’s eldest son, Jiang Mianheng. He stepped down from the position of President of ShanghaiTech University and took up a secondary position as the director of the university’s Academic Affairs Committee. There have been persistent negative rumors surrounding Jiang Mianheng, alleging that he is under close surveillance by the authorities and involved in a corruption case related to military technology.

On June 5th, a notice posted on the official website of ShanghaiTech University indicated that Jiang Mianheng had resigned as President of the university, and was replaced by academician Feng Donglai.

The updated information on the ShanghaiTech University website shows that the Party Secretary of the university is Li Ruxin, and the President is Feng Donglai.

Jiang Mianheng stepped down from his position as President of ShanghaiTech University after serving for 10 years, and transitioned to the role of director of the university’s Academic Affairs Committee, marking a move to a secondary position.

At this sensitive moment before the third plenary session of the Communist Party of China, the change in position of Jiang Zemin’s son, Jiang Mianheng, has sparked speculation.

There have been numerous recent negative rumors surrounding Jiang Mianheng.

Chinese issues expert, Tang Jingyuan, recently quoted some insider sources within the system who have disclosed overseas that the power struggle between Xi Jinping and the privileged families is intensifying, with Jiang’s family, represented by Jiang Mianheng, being a significant part of it. It is alleged that Jiang Mianheng, his brother Jiang Miankang, and his son Jiang Zhicheng are all currently under tight control by the authorities, but there is no indication of Xi Jinping’s directives on their next steps.

Australian scholar, Yuan Hongbing, revealed exclusively to Dajiyuan on March 12th that the corruption case within the Chinese military, identified by the corruption in the Rocket Force, is still expanding and implicates those who were once involved in the military industry, including Jiang Zemin’s son, Jiang Mianheng. “The commander of the Strategic Support Force, Ju Qiansheng, and the former political commissar of the Rocket Force, Xu Zhongbo, have confessed to their involvement in this case, which has direct ties to Jiang Mianheng.”

Yuan Hongbing stated that the Chinese authorities believe that these military personalities and Jiang Mianheng have formed a political clique based on economic corruption and power-related transactions. In private gatherings, they criticize Xi Jinping’s governance and leadership capabilities.

Jiang Mianheng, 73 years old, previously held positions such as director of the Shanghai Metallurgical Institute, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and director of the Shanghai Branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He became the President of ShanghaiTech University in 2014. During his time as Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, he also served as the Vice Commander of the Chinese Manned Space Engineering and the Deputy Commander of the Shenzhou V mission, maintaining close ties to the aerospace and military industrial sectors.

Jiang Mianheng’s father, former Communist Party leader Jiang Zemin, passed away on November 30, 2022, in Shanghai. Jiang Zemin was famously dubbed the “Supreme Leader of Communist Party Corruption,” while Jiang Mianheng has been dubbed “China’s Number One Greedy”. His son, Jiang Zhicheng, born in 1986, has been reported to hold trillions in assets on behalf of the Jiang family, earning him the title of the world’s top elusive billionaire.

The official obituary released by the Communist Party referred to Jiang Zemin as a “revolutionary proletarian fighter,” but the appearance of Jiang Zhicheng at the funeral drew ridicule from online users, tarnishing Jiang Zemin’s revolutionary image.
