According to official sources, on Thursday, October 30th, a JetBlue flight originating from Mexico was forced to make an emergency landing in Florida due to a sudden drop in altitude. Some passengers on board have been taken to the hospital, but the exact number has not been disclosed.
The aircraft in question, according to JetBlue’s website, has a capacity of 162 seats.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) stated that the flight from Cancun to Newark, New Jersey experienced a sudden drop in altitude during the journey, and they are currently investigating the incident.
The FAA mentioned that the Airbus A320 aircraft diverted around 2 p.m. and made an emergency landing at Tampa International Airport in Florida.
A recording of radio communications on LiveATC.net captured a conversation mentioning, “At least three people injured, looks like head lacerations.”
JetBlue stated that medical personnel evaluated passengers and crew at the airport for injuries, with some individuals subsequently being taken to the hospital.
JetBlue mentioned in a statement, “Our team has grounded the aircraft and will conduct a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the incident. The safety of our passengers and crew is always our top priority, and we will strive to provide support to those involved.”
Earlier in June, a JetBlue flight at Boston Logan International Airport overshot the runway during landing, going into the grass area, fortunately without injuries, although the runway had to be temporarily closed.
