Jerusalem on High Alert: Israeli Military Intercepts Rockets at Erez Crossing Twice in 12 Hours

Israel’s military said on Thursday that it had intercepted missiles launched from Yemen for the second time within less than 12 hours, triggering air raid sirens in Jerusalem.

According to Agence France-Presse, the Israeli military issued a statement around noon local time saying, “Air raid sirens sounded in several areas of Israel a short while ago, followed by the interception of a missile launched from Yemen.”

The military also reported that they shot down a missile from Yemen earlier in the morning. The Houthi rebels in Yemen have stated that these repeated attacks are in response to Israel’s offensive in the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli emergency medical service organization Magen David Adom stated that neither of the missile attacks caused any casualties, although one man was injured while seeking cover during the first missile attack.

The Houthi rebels claimed that the missile was launched to target the Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv, but it was unclear which specific attack they were referring to.

Israel’s defense system has been on high alert to intercept any potential threats emanating from neighboring territories. Additionally, the ongoing conflict in the region has raised concerns over the escalation of violence and the potential impact on civilian populations.

The international community has been closely monitoring the situation and calling for a de-escalation of tensions to prevent further violence and casualties. Efforts are being made to facilitate dialogue and find diplomatic solutions to address the root causes of the conflicts in the region.

The latest missile interceptions highlight the volatile security situation in the Middle East and the challenges faced by Israel in safeguarding its citizens from external threats. The incidents serve as a stark reminder of the constant threat of conflict and the need for sustained efforts towards peace and stability in the region.
