July 11, 2025 – Cantopop legend Jacky Cheung, who has held over 1,000 individual concerts throughout his singing career, celebrated his 64th birthday on July 10. Since the launch of his “60+ World Tour” in 2023, Cheung has performed in over 200 shows, showcasing his signature one-legged stand as a spontaneous highlight in each interactive segment, becoming the most iconic stage move of his ongoing tour.
On February 23, Cheung marked a milestone in his singing career by completing his 218th show of the “60+ World Tour” in Haikou, China, reaching a total of 1,000 individual concert performances. This achievement positions him as the first Mandarin singer to exceed a thousand concert appearances. Reflecting on this milestone during the Haikou concert, Cheung expressed, “For me, 1,000 concerts symbolize over 3,000 hours invested on this stage over the past 40 years.”
From his first solo tour “87” starting in Hong Kong’s Hung Hom Coliseum, Cheung’s journey has spanned 38 years and crossed over 18 countries and regions in Asia, Europe, Oceania, and the Americas, culminating in his 10th tour with a total of 1,000 shows to date. In recent years, his concerts have been filled with witty banter and memorable moments, promising fans to continue performing even into his 70s and beyond.
However, Cheung has faced health challenges during his latest tour. In Malaysia, he experienced vertigo due to Meniere’s disease, temporarily halting the show, while in Shanghai, he had to postpone due to a COVID-19 infection. Additionally, in Taipei, he contracted RSV (respiratory syncytial virus), leading to the rescheduling of three shows at the Taipei Arena from last year to April this year. In March, he also canceled three scheduled performances in Guangzhou due to health reasons.
Responding to rumors circulating online about financial difficulties and extravagant spending by his wife, May Ng, Cheung clarified, “I want to make it clear that I am quite frugal in financial matters.” He emphasized his cautious approach to money management, denying claims of bankruptcy or debt accumulation, stating that his concerts are primarily for his own enjoyment and to bring joy to his fans through his music.
Last year, during a concert in Taiwan, Cheung’s delayed performances due to RSV virus garnered unwavering support from thousands of fans who patiently waited for him for ten months. Taiwanese singer Gigi Kao, who collaborated with Cheung on the song “You Are the Most Precious,” expressed empathy at the time. As Cheung celebrates his birthday this year, Kao shared a heartfelt birthday message along with a photo of the two, wishing him good health and continued success in his career, referring to him as an eternal idol.
