Is it difficult to start a business? Rising star of young entrepreneurs: Don’t be afraid of failure.

Los Angeles Overseas Chinese Cultural and Educational Services Center and the Taiwanese-American Chamber of Commerce of Los Angeles’ Youth Business Department (TJCCLA) co-hosted a seminar on “New Talent Expo and Global Youth Business Potential Stars” on the afternoon of June 8th (Saturday). The event featured 2023 winners of the Overseas Community Affairs Council’s Youth Entrepreneurship Award, Fu Ruike, Xu Huangshuo, and Li Yuting, who shared their entrepreneurial experiences, attracting nearly a hundred entrepreneurs and youths.

Director Chen Minyong of the Overseas Chinese Center stated that the event aimed to allow young people in the Los Angeles area interested in entrepreneurship to understand the joys and challenges of starting a business through the sharing of experiences by the three “Youth Business Potential Stars” winners of the Overseas Community Affairs Council. It also aimed to promote youth exchange of experiences and foster community cohesion.

President Li Dawei of the TJCCLA Youth Business Department mentioned that the event stemmed from their participation in the Overseas Community Affairs Council’s “Youth Business Potential Stars” visit last year, where many individuals found inspiration and resources, discovering that youth worldwide are eager to start their own businesses. He expressed his pleasure at the chamber’s collaboration with the Overseas Community Affairs Council to help young entrepreneurs in Southern California access more information and opportunities.

One of the speakers, Fu Ruike, a graduate of California State University, Long Beach (CSULB), with dual majors in Finance and International Business, shared his journey from being a wedding photographer to establishing “Peek Peek VR”, a virtual tour technology company. Initially underestimated in 2018, the company gained attention during the global pandemic in 2019 for its WebTour service, used by institutions like UC Irvine and UCLA.

Xu Huangshuo, an operating partner of Sunlite Industrial Corp., shared his successful experience of increasing the company’s revenue to millions of dollars within three years using an e-commerce platform and adjusting strategies to overcome competition from Chinese factories. He is currently sharing his expertise with Taiwanese businesses and offering consultations and agency services to those interested in expanding to the United States.

Li Yuting, the founder and CEO of Pixel Canvas, a company that developed a 3D interactive platform based on web browsers, collaborating with global brands like LG and Verizon. Li shared insights from his participation in the 2023 Overseas Community Affairs Council’s “Youth Business Potential Stars” visit, encouraging young entrepreneurs not to fear failure, as he believes failure is a stepping stone to success. He advised seizing opportunities, embracing innovation, and exploring various collaboration possibilities.

The seminar also featured several organizations, including the Los Angeles Taiwanese American Elite Association and CalOSBA (California Office of the Small Business Advocate), which helps entrepreneurs establish and grow their businesses in California.

Rossmoor Chamber of Commerce CEO Rui Yi introduced the presence of two Women’s Business Centers established by the US Small Business Administration (SBA) in the Los Angeles area, one of which provides Chinese-language services, being one of only two such units in the United States. The SBA is a federal agency that offers free business counseling services and assists entrepreneurs and small business owners in obtaining loans ranging from five thousand to several million dollars to support various business developments.

President Ye Yilan of the Taiwanese-American Chamber of Commerce of Los Angeles also attended the event, emphasizing the rare opportunity for young people to gain knowledge and advice during the entrepreneurial process, utilizing more resources to achieve their entrepreneurial dreams.
