Irish Senate delegation arrives in Taiwan to meet Vice President Tsai Ing-wen.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan) stated that Diarmuid Wilson, Vice Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and National Defense Committee of the Irish Senate, led a delegation to visit Taiwan. During the visit, they will meet with Vice President of the Republic of China Xiao Meiqin and others, aiming to strengthen bilateral relations between Taiwan and Ireland.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China issued a press release stating that “a delegation of 5 members from the Irish Senate, invited by our government, visited Taiwan from the 14th to the 19th. The delegation includes the head Diarmuid Wilson, Vice Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and National Defense Committee of the Senate, Senators Gerard Craughwell, Gerry Horkan, Sharon Keogan, and Garret Ahearn.”

During their visit to Taiwan, the delegation will meet with Vice President Xiao Meiqin, call on Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Yuan Tseng Chih-cheng, Minister of Foreign Affairs Joseph Wu, and Deputy Minister of the Mainland Affairs Council Shen You-zhong. They will visit the National Residence and Urban Renewal Center, and attend a banquet hosted by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Chen Li-kuo. Additionally, the delegation will visit Taipei 101, Dadaocheng, and explore places like Jiaoxi in Yilan to experience the beauty of Taiwan’s nature and culture.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China stated that “this is Wilson’s third visit to Taiwan leading a delegation. The delegation members are staunch friends of Taiwan who have supported our country in participating in international organizations such as the World Health Assembly (WHA). This visit is expected to enhance understanding of Taiwan’s democratic development and cross-strait relations, promote bilateral parliamentary exchanges, and further strengthen Taiwan-Ireland bilateral relations.”
