A delegation from the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) in the United States visited Taiwan to promote Taiwan-US relations. On December 3rd, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China, Chen Ming-chi, hosted a banquet, hoping that the various state governments in the United States would deepen their relationship with Taiwan in diverse ways to promote substantial bilateral cooperation.
The NCSL, celebrating its 50th anniversary, consists of members from the legislatures of all 50 states in the U.S. The delegation visited Taiwan from December 1st to 6th. On the 3rd, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Chen Ming-chi hosted the delegation for a banquet, where they exchanged views on topics such as Taiwan-US relations, cross-strait relations, economic and trade energy, cooperation in high-tech industries, talent development, healthcare systems, and local-level exchanges.
In his speech, Chen Ming-chi noted the recent peak in Taiwan-US relations, deepening partnership in trade, investment, education, and technology sectors. Taiwan, as a crucial hub in the global high-tech industry supply chain, is actively enhancing cooperation with the U.S. in the semiconductor and advanced manufacturing sectors.
Chen Ming-chi acknowledged that recently 25 states and Guam have established offices in Taiwan and encouraged more governors to lead economic and trade delegations to visit Taiwan. He also expressed hope that state governments would deepen their relationship with Taiwan in diverse ways to promote substantial bilateral cooperation.
NCSL President and Illinois State Representative Marcus Evans stated that the delegation was deeply impressed by Taiwan’s warm and hospitable culture during their visit. He emphasized that NCSL, with members from all 50 states in the U.S., could serve as an important bridge between Taiwan and the various states in the U.S., hoping to further establish closer ties between Taiwan and the U.S. in the future.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China announced that under the policy of “Comprehensive Diplomacy,” it will continue to strengthen partnerships with various states in the U.S. and deepen exchanges and cooperation in the fields of economics, trade, technology, energy, and education between Taiwan and the U.S.
