Recently, a pig water injection black den in Handan City, Hebei Province was exposed, once again bringing attention to food safety and animal abuse issues in mainland China.
According to a report from Shandong TV, in several mysterious courtyards in Jinnan New District and Cheng’an County of Handan City, pig squeals can be heard in the afternoon. Video footage taken on site shows a worker in purple clothing inserting a water pipe into the mouth of a live pig and forcibly watering it. After the watering, an unidentified liquid is injected, causing the pig to scream continuously.
According to insiders, the needle is called “Assoben,” commonly known as the “seal needle,” which allows pigs to quickly absorb water, reduce urination, with the aim of increasing weight for more profit. The water-injected pigs are sent to the slaughterhouse overnight.
It was reported that uninspected live pigs were sent across provinces to Henan Yiteng Food Co., Ltd. in Jiaozuo, Henan Province.
After the incident was exposed, netizens were shocked, raising concerns about food safety and animal rights.
Many netizens commented, “Oh my, I always thought water-injected pork was done to dead pigs, but it turns out they do it while alive.” “Do not abuse the living while killing! Let’s leave some room to be humane.” “There will be retribution, either on oneself or descendants.” “His descendants will suffer because of the sins of the previous generations.” “A friend said his neighbor used to slaughter and sell pigs, also watering the pigs, which were in pain and screaming loudly. This will come back as karma, not long after, the person was fatally stabbed, lungs shattered. It’s a true story.”
“Long ago, water-injected cattle were exposed in a similar way, with tubes inserted through the nose or mouth, and the cattle cried when rescued.” “If you haven’t witnessed the miserable cries of cows and sheep being water-injected, you can’t imagine the heartbreaking scene.” “So cruel.” “Can pigs injected with such substances still be consumed? This is terrifying.” “These unscrupulous merchants will do anything for money, such heartless actions. They should be severely punished to prevent them from repeating such atrocities in the future.”
After the incident gained attention, on May 19, the Agriculture and Rural Bureau of Wen County, Henan Province, reported that the company in question was being investigated for not following regulations regarding the registration of live pig inspections upon entering the factory. Currently, the company has been closed for rectification, and the implicated pork has been sealed.
