Initiation of the election to remove the county prosecutor in A County will start once enough signatures are obtained.

On Monday, April 15th, the Alameda County Registrar of Voters announced that there had been enough valid signatures collected to proceed with a recall election against Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price.

The Registrar of Voters received 123,374 signatures supporting the recall of Price on March 4th. Each signature was manually counted by the registrar’s office.

According to the Registrar of Voters, every signature underwent verification, and the number of valid signatures was sufficient to move forward with a recall election. The office confirmed that 74,757 signatures were deemed valid, exceeding the required 73,195 signatures for the recall vote.

The recall effort was initiated by a group called “Save Alameda For Everyone (SAFE)”, comprised of county residents and business owners. The organization accuses Price of failing to hold wrongdoers accountable.

Price has alleged signature fraud within the recall movement.

She claimed that the petition sheets were left unattended on a table, and some signatures were from outside the county or state.

On Monday, the Registrar of Voters stated that 48,617 signatures were deemed “invalid”.

The next step in the recall process involves the Alameda County Council reviewing the petition. The council’s next meeting is scheduled for April 30th.

Price is not the only elected official in the East Bay facing a recall. Last month, a group began gathering signatures to recall Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao.
