The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in the United States continues its immigration enforcement efforts over the weekend by arresting multiple illegal immigrants with convictions for serious crimes such as rape, hit-and-run, domestic violence, or attempted murder. According to a press release issued by DHS on August 11th, officials from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency conducted enforcement actions targeting these individuals who pose significant public safety threats.
Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin stated, “While Americans are enjoying their weekend, ICE is working tirelessly to apprehend the most heinous criminal illegal immigrants that endanger public safety.”
Among the ten arrested illegal immigrants listed by DHS is a Chinese national, 61-year-old Zi Ming Lu. Lu was convicted in Gwinnett County, Georgia, for crimes including forgery, trademark counterfeiting, and copyright infringement.
Assistant Secretary McLaughlin also promoted ICE recruitment efforts in the same press release, encouraging patriotic Americans to join ICE enforcement.
The DHS officially launched the “Defend the Homeland” nationwide recruitment campaign on July 29th to recruit federal law enforcement agents for ICE, in line with the Trump administration’s policy of large-scale deportation of illegal immigrants.
The recruitment aims to enlist 10,000 new ICE agents, deportation officers, and support staff annually to achieve the goal of deporting one million illegal immigrants each year. The recruitment offers a one-time signing bonus of $50,000.
The recruitment is supported by the “One Big Beautiful Bill” budget proposal, which allocates nearly $30 billion for ICE to hire new employees, as reported by the Associated Press.
