A visitant from Hubei, Yin Dengzhen, who was sentenced to four years and six months for “provoking trouble,” has been admitted to the hospital twice due to a serious illness while in custody. The Intermediate People’s Court of Shiyan City has approved the application for external supervision, but the women’s prison in Wuhan claimed Yin Dengzhen is in good health and forcibly placed her in prison on September 9th.
Yin Dengzhen, a visitor from Hubei, was recently housed on the 7th floor of the inpatient department at the People’s Hospital of Shiyan City. On September 4th, the second trial of Yin Dengzhen’s “provoking trouble” case was secretly sentenced in the Shiyan City detention center, upholding the original sentence of four years and six months. During the trial, Yin Dengzhen once again applied for external supervision, and the Intermediate People’s Court of Shiyan City orally agreed to initiate the approval process. However, on September 9th, the Hubei Provincial Prison Administration and Wuhan Women’s Prison jointly handled the transfer procedures.
Yin Dengzhen’s daughter, Xia Beibei, told a reporter, “Wuhan Women’s Prison claimed to have conducted a comprehensive physical examination for my mother before imprisoning her, stating that she is in very good health without any diseases. They then contacted my brother to handle the relevant procedures in Wuhan and persuaded my mother to accept the sentencing outcome and serve her sentence properly.”
“My mother is still bedridden, unable to eat without vomiting, and the prison not only deprives her of basic medical rights but also attempts to force her to labor.”
On September 11th, Wuhan Women’s Prison contacted Yin Dengzhen’s son to handle related procedures and deposit money at the prison, arranging for him to meet next Thursday to “persuade Yin Dengzhen to accept the sentence and serve it properly.” It was revealed by insiders that Yin Dengzhen, suffering from lymphoma, remains bedridden and vomits immediately after eating. However, the prison falsified that comprehensive examinations were conducted before incarceration, showing excellent health with no illnesses, and without any abnormalities in the lymphatic system. Her mental state was also reported to be very good after being imprisoned.
Yin Dengzhen has long been appealing to the Supreme People’s Court in Beijing due to a wrongful case. On June 29, 2023, Yin Dengzhen and her husband, Xiao Shujun, were beaten by several security personnel during their appeal at the Supreme Court, resulting in Yin Dengzhen’s fractured ribs and multiple injuries all over her body, while Xiao Shujun was diagnosed with soft tissue injuries, coronary heart disease, and epilepsy, requiring hospitalization for treatment. Evidence provided by the Chaoyang Sub-bureau of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau stated, “Police have ascertained that there was no physical altercation between the appellants and the court police at the scene.”
However, on June 30, 2023, the case was filed by the Chaoyang Sub-bureau for “assaulting the police,” leading to arrests and sentences for alleged “provoking trouble.” Yin Dengzhen was sentenced to four years and six months and is presently serving her term at the Wuhan Women’s Prison.
In the judicial dossier of Yin Dengzhen, a specific incident dated April 15, 2024, involving Xiao Shujun, Yin Dengzhen, and Xia Beibei (Yin Dengzhen’s daughter) being detained, sitting idly, shouting grievances, causing a scene, insulting leaders across from the west gate of Office Area Three… Xia Beibei sought verification from a lawyer, who stated that there were no surveillance videos or enforcement records related to her in the case files of Yin and Xiao.
Xia Beibei explained, “This particular incident proves that the Supreme People’s Court, in order to suppress and retaliate against visitors, has even involved me, Xia Beibei, in political persecution. It showcases the political retaliation that has entangled the families of activists. The cases of Yin Dengzhen and Xiao Shujun have fully exposed how the Supreme People’s Court has deprived judicial fairness, manipulated evidence, fabricated false testimony, and deliberately created politically motivated wrongful convictions.”
“I can only consider my mother dead in prison at this point, but I will never stay silent. I will continue to expose how the Supreme People’s Court of China has become the mastermind behind a chain of criminal activities, orchestrating injustice and political murders, revealing to the world that Chinese law is dead! I will also continue to submit applications to foreign governments and legislators, urging them to pressure the Chinese government and implement visa restrictions and entry bans on senior officials involved in political murders.”
Xia Beibei added, “I hope to engage in human rights work in the future, using my voice and actions to ensure that more victims are seen and remembered. Today, the victims of political murder are Yin Dengzhen, Xiao Shujun, and it could extend to myself. Tomorrow, it could be anyone.”
