Hubei Breakfast Shop Exposed for Using Meat Filling Chewed by Cats in Buns

In a disturbing incident at a breakfast shop in Yiling District, Yichang City, Hubei Province, meat filling used for making steamed buns and dumplings was discovered to have been eaten by a cat. Despite this, the employees continued to use the contaminated ingredients, which had come into contact with cat saliva, to prepare food.

On the afternoon of October 14, a video circulated on the mainland internet showing a breakfast shop in Yiling District, Yichang City, suspected of using tainted meat filling to make and sell buns.

According to a report by the “Xinjing Bao,” on October 14, netizens in Yiling District, Yichang City, Hubei Province, reported that a cat had climbed onto a table inside a breakfast shop and nibbled on the meat filling used for making buns and dumplings.

Witness Mr. Yang stated that although the staff noticed and removed the meat filling after the cat incident, they continued to use it in making buns. Mr. Yang believed this action did not comply with hygiene regulations.

The staff of the implicated breakfast shop responded by stating that the cat did not belong to them but to a neighboring household, and due to being familiar with the environment, it climbed onto the table unnoticed during busy hours. They also mentioned plans to enhance hygiene and safety measures moving forward.

In response to media reports on the incident, on October 14, the Market Supervision and Administration Bureau of Yiling District in Yichang City, Hubei Province, announced that law enforcement officers had sealed all the implicated ingredients and problematic fillings, and a case had been opened for investigation. Currently, the shop has been closed down for the time being.
