On April 13, a Wanjie M7 Pro was involved in a collision accident at the Shenyang Industrial Exhibition Hall in Liaoning, causing damage to multiple vehicles and injuring one person.
A viral video showed a Wanjie M7 electric car accelerating suddenly inside the exhibition hall, then making a sharp turn, causing the public to hurriedly dodge out of the way. One person was unable to avoid the collision in time.
According to reports from the public, the accident resulted in damage to multiple vehicles, one person injured, and the front of the Wanjie car causing the accident was severely damaged.
Many netizens questioned why the vehicle’s AEB (Automatic Emergency Braking system) was not triggered. “Where is the so-called leading-edge AEB?” “Talking big every day, this kind of attitude is the most contemptible. Making quality products should be the focus, not just talking about smart driving every day.”
In response to this, the Wanjie Automobile Customer Service Department released a statement on the 14th, stating that the accident occurred on the eve of the exhibition teardown, “the vehicle was not in exhibition mode, leading to an accidental activation of the vehicle.” Upon examination, the injured person sustained minor abrasions and was discharged on the same day.
The announcement also stated, “Due to the driver not wearing a seatbelt and significant steering wheel interference, the conditions for AEB activation were not met.”
The announcement was questioned by netizens, “The vehicle was accidentally activated after the person got in?” “If significant steering wheel interference doesn’t trigger it, then is the driver always the primary responsible party? Or is it about safe driving, after all?”
The “Wanjie M7” is an electric SUV jointly developed by Huawei and the Chinese electric car manufacturer, Ceres, and was launched in September 2023.
According to previous reports, the “Wanjie M7” electric car was involved in a rear-end collision and caught fire in Shanxi on April 26 last year, resulting in the death of three passengers onboard, including a 2-year-old child.
