Huang Xiaoming, with a protruding belly and a weight skyrocketing to 85 kilograms, is almost unrecognizable, while his intelligence remains at a childhood level. This is the portrayal of a character with intellectual disabilities by Huang Xiaoming in the new film “Sunshine Club”.
In the movie “Sunshine Club”, Huang Xiaoming plays an adult whose cognitive intelligence level remains at a childhood stage. On the 17th, he shared during a press conference that before filming began, he spent a month specifically experiencing life in a charity organization, dining, chatting, and living with individuals with special needs. He observed that their intellectual capacities ranged from that of a 3-year-old to a 10-year-old, essentially behaving like children, enjoying candies, cola, and generally having a fuller physique.
To transform into a chubby uncle, Huang Xiaoming not only intentionally gained 15 kilograms, pushing his weight to 85 kilograms, but also cut his originally stylish hairstyle into a bald look. In addition to going makeup-free, he added freckles to his face, wore braces, carried a primary school student’s backpack, and had a lollipop in his mouth. It can be said that he completely shed the “idol burden”.
When asked if he had any hesitation in taking on this challenging and transformative role, Huang Xiaoming stated, “I have never hesitated, and I was almost eager to start.” He mentioned his admiration for Hollywood superstar Matthew McConaughey’s drastic transformation from fat to thin in “Dallas Buyers Club”. “I am willing to be like a rubber man, capable of changing myself at any moment and becoming a character in a movie. Although the whole process is painful, when you successfully shape the character and see yourself on screen, the excitement in your heart is immeasurable,” he expressed.
Despite presenting a overweight appearance on camera, Huang Xiaoming appeared to have maintained a standard physique during the press conference for his new film. It turns out that he diligently worked on losing weight after wrapping up the movie, only eating a small piece of meal replacement biscuit in the morning. However, he lamented that despite his efforts, he has not yet returned to his original weight.
Huang Xiaoming jokingly stated that losing weight is his lifelong career, believing that he would be a “happy fatty” if not an actor. He sighed, “Because I am truly prone to gaining weight. I have tried not eating anything at night and just drinking water the next day, yet my weight still increases by half a kilogram. It’s terrifying, really terrifying.”
