【Epoch Times News, October 31, 2024】Democratic candidate He Jinli (Kamala Harris) and Republican candidate Donald Trump (Donald Trump) will head to Nevada on Thursday (October 31) to compete for the support of Latino voters. Nevada is one of the seven swing states with the lowest population, expected to play a decisive role in the upcoming United States presidential election next Tuesday.
Approximately 30% of Nevada’s population is of Hispanic descent, with Hispanic voters historically being a stronghold for the Democratic party. However, former President Trump’s support among the nationwide Latino population has been on the rise.
In a series of Reuters/Ipsos polls conducted this month nationwide, Trump garnered support from 38% of registered Hispanic voters, up from 32% during the same period in 2020. Vice President He Jinli has a support rate of 50% among Hispanic voters, while Democratic President Joe Biden had a support rate of 54% in October 2020.
American singer Jennifer Lopez will deliver a speech at a He Jinli rally in Las Vegas, where the Mexican rock band Mana will perform.
This rally and concert are part of He Jinli’s “When We Vote We Win” campaign, aimed at mobilizing voters. He Jinli will also visit Reno.
On the same day, Trump will hold a rally in the southeastern part of Henderson, Nevada, a city with a population of over 330,000 and home to the Henderson Silver Knights hockey team.
Trump’s event will take place at Lee’s Family Forum.
At a rally Trump held in New York on Sunday, comedian Tony Hinchcliffe referred to Puerto Rico as a “floating island of garbage,” sparking strong protests and drawing criticism from several prominent Latino Americans.
Singer Nicky Jam, who had expressed support for Trump in September, retracted his support on Wednesday. In a video posted on Instagram, he stated, “Puerto Rico should be respected.”
Trump’s senior campaign advisor Danielle Alvarez stated in a statement that the comedian’s comments about Puerto Rico do not “reflect the views of President Trump or the campaign.”
On Wednesday, Trump in Green Bay, Wisconsin, said, “I don’t know who he is… I have no clue about him, I love Puerto Rico, and Puerto Rico loves me.”
Trump also mentioned that Biden had previously referred to some of his supporters as “garbage,” indicating that Democratic leaders hold contempt for their supporters. He Jinli is working to mitigate the damage caused by Biden’s remarks and stated, “I will be the president for all Americans.”
According to data from the University of Florida Election Lab, over 59 million Americans have voted.
Political commentator Jon Ralston announced that nearly 40% of registered voters in the state have already voted. He also noted that Republicans have maintained a “strong” lead so far in Nevada.
During the 2020 election, Nevada’s vote count was delayed, with news outlets declaring Biden’s victory in the state five days after election day. In light of this, reforms have been implemented in the state this year to expedite the counting process.
This year in Nevada, any ballot postmarked before November 5th will be counted as long as it arrives within four days.
One of Trump’s advisors mentioned that Trump will also visit New Mexico on Thursday, aiming to “expand the map” and win over states that were out of reach in 2020.
He Jinli and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, will also head to Phoenix, Arizona on Thursday. Arizona is another state fiercely contested by both campaign teams.
