At the age of 43, mainland Chinese actor Hu Ge, recently confessed during the promotion of his starring role in the new film “Three Drops of Blood” that the emerging young actors of today have strong abilities, causing him to feel a sense of crisis and even worrying about being eliminated.
In an interview, Hu Ge mentioned that during the filming of the movie “Three Drops of Blood,” actress Wen Qi, who played the pregnant woman Li Qi, shocked him greatly: “At the age of 16, she portrayed a novice mother from pregnancy to childbirth in such a vivid way.” He even exclaimed, “She performed better than me, it’s simply overwhelming.”
What surprised Hu Ge even more is that Wen Qi, a 22-year-old actress who won the Golden Horse Award for Best Supporting Actress, has never formally studied acting and relies purely on talent and perception. Hu Ge expressed his awe for the younger generation and bluntly stated that working with young actors has given him a sense of “crisis,” realizing that he should “rearrange the tricks and routines he learned before, maybe even discard them, and start from scratch.”
In the film, Hu Ge portrays a single father who has lost his child, despite not being a father himself during filming. He reflected, “If I had become a father before taking on this script, I might not have had the courage to play this role. Because only when you truly have a child do you realize the weight of parental love and the depth of pain from losing a child.”
Despite the clear rule stated by the host that “no gifts will be accepted on stage,” Hu Ge made an exception and accepted a gift from a fan. His reason was simple as he walked down the stage and said, “I want to accept this, my daughter would probably like it.”
When the fan mentioned that she also prepared handmade flowers for “Little Jasmine,” Hu Ge turned back again, asked the host if he could accept, and kept his eyes on the flowers. Hu Ge openly embraced his identity as a father, directly using his daughter as the reason, instantly igniting the atmosphere at the event.
Once dubbed as “Diamond Bachelor,” Hu Ge shocked the public on January 31, 2023, when he suddenly announced on Weibo that he was married and a father. Despite his extremely private life, he made a rare high-profile announcement of his love for his daughter, nicknamed “Little Jasmine,” when she turned 100 days old, making the news trend on Weibo. When interviewed, Hu Ge stated that the most important role in his life is being a father.
