How to prolong the blooming time of roses? Let the experts tell you.

Roses are one of the most common flowers found in households and are widely beloved by people. However, like other types of flowers, roses also wither over time. Extending the blooming period of roses seems to enhance people’s appreciation of their beauty and the love they convey. To address this, experts have shared several secrets to prolong the blooming time of roses.

According to a report by the British Daily Express, David Denyer, a floral expert from the British flower shop Eflorist, mentioned that roses are one of the most common flowers found at home. To enjoy them for a long time, one must not neglect them. Regular maintenance is key.

For outdoor roses, Denyer suggests watering them approximately every three days and regularly checking the soil’s moisture to see if they need additional water.

Denyer advised, “Remember to prune roses in a timely manner as it helps them continue blooming. To remove wilted flowers, cut off the withered or brown flowers about 1/4 inch (0.6 cm) above new leaves or flower buds.”

He added, “Removing these wilted flowers can promote new flower growth, ensuring that the rose bushes are in optimal condition throughout the season.”

As for indoor roses, Denyer recommended, “If you place them in a vase indoors, be sure to change the water in the vase every two to three days.”

He explained, “It’s also important to remove leaves below the waterline in the vase, as these leaves can rot over time, and the bacteria they breed can quickly kill the roses.”

In addition to regular maintenance, Denyer also mentioned other tricks to extend the lifespan of roses in a vase.

The first trick involves using sugar. Denyer suggested that a quick and simple way to keep roses vibrant is by using sugar, something most households already have.

He said, “Simply add two teaspoons of sugar to the vase and give it a slight stir. The sugar provides all the nutrients needed for the flowers to maintain health and growth, making this simple trick a great success.”

He also advised adding two teaspoons of sugar when changing the water in the vase. This method is suitable for all other flowers as well. Therefore, if your flowers need some extra nutrients, this is a good trick to try.

The second trick involves using bleach. If you don’t have sugar at home, Denyer recommended using bleach.

He explained, “Adding 1/4 teaspoon of bleach to the vase may seem a bit unconventional, but it’s a good method to keep the roses fresh.”

He added, “Bleach helps kill any bacteria that may be lurking in the water, allowing your roses to stay healthy for a longer period. This trick can even extend the lifespan of your roses by three weeks!”

In a report by the British Gardeners’ World magazine, roses are noted as one of the most beautiful and diverse garden plants. Most roses require sunlight and fertile soil to thrive, although some roses can grow well in partially shaded and comparatively poor soil.

Key points for planting roses include:

– Most roses require ample sunlight to thrive.
– Roses need fertile, moist, but well-draining soil.
– Water roses regularly to keep the soil moist but not waterlogged.
– Roses are hungry plants. Cover the soil with organic matter annually, such as rotting manure, and consider using fertilizer to promote flowering in summer.
– Prune roses annually to encourage healthy growth and flowering while controlling shape.
– Plant bare-root roses (roses without soil) between November and March. Container-grown roses can be planted at any time of the year.

If you plan to give roses to a loved one, it’s important to understand the language of flowers.

In terms of flower colors, red roses are the most popular for Valentine’s Day, symbolizing “I love you”; yellow roses signify friendship and care; white roses are traditional wedding flowers, symbolizing “I am yours truly”; pink roses express appreciation, gratitude, and tenderness; while black roses carry a mysterious aura, expressing loneliness and an open attitude towards others.
