How to Deal with iOS 18’s High Battery Consumption for iPhone Users

Many iPhone users are expressing dissatisfaction with the latest software update, stating that it significantly impacts the performance of their phone batteries.

According to a report from the UK’s Daily Mail, Apple released a new operating system, “iOS 18,” on Monday, prompting millions of Apple users to quickly update their software on their iPhones.

However, soon after the update, many users started regretting it, complaining on social media platforms that the new operating system seems to drain their smartphone batteries’ lifespan.

One user said, “After updating to iOS 18, my iPhone 11’s battery health is only at 75%.”

Another person commented, “Oh my, iOS 18 is definitely draining my battery!!!!”

These users commonly complain that their devices are overheating after the software upgrade.

Nevertheless, some individuals mentioned that their phones are running normally after the update without excessive battery consumption.

The Daily Mail reported that although Apple has not commented, experiencing a drain in battery life after a power-intensive update is considered normal.

Sometimes, a software update process may require several hours or even days to complete, which could cause fluctuations in battery health during this period.

Adrian Kingsley-Hughes, a researcher from the business technology news site ZDNet, previously explained that installing a new operating system on an iPhone triggers numerous background activities, such as indexing and recalibrating the battery, which could last for several hours or even days.

“Not only does it consume power, but the battery recalibration may give the impression of faster battery consumption, even though that’s not the case,” the researcher added.

However, if the issue persists for an extended period, it is advisable to check the maximum capacity of the phone battery.

As iPhone batteries deteriorate chemically with age, the battery capacity may decrease, leading to shorter standby times and decreased performance between charges.

Users should also check if “Wi-Fi Assist” is enabled, as this setting helps maintain a connection to the network when Wi-Fi signals are weak but may also drain the battery.

Lastly, Apple advises users to take additional measures to maximize battery life.

Keeping devices away from extreme temperatures above 35°C (95°F) is crucial for extending battery life.

Moreover, while charging your phone, if the phone cover generates excessive heat, it is recommended to remove it to prevent the device from shutting down unexpectedly.
