Houston Taiwanese Association Awards Children’s Painting Competition in 2024

On the morning of June 22 (Saturday) at 10 a.m., the 2024 Houston Taiwan Association Children’s Drawing Competition Award Ceremony was held in Room 203 of the Overseas Chinese Education Center. Wang Yingrong, the director of the Overseas Chinese Education Center, was invited to attend. Zhang Jinjuan, the director of the American Taiwan Association, accompanied by the president Luo Xiujun, along with board members Luo Qianli, Li Youmei, Zhang Jinjuan, Guo Beili, Shao Mei Wu, Mi Mailan, Cai Maoli, students, and parents attended the event.

Wang Yingrong gave a speech emphasizing the importance of nurturing overseas Chinese youth and the second and third generations. She commended the American Taiwan Association for organizing this nationwide painting activity. This year’s painting theme was “Future World.” Through the children’s works, it was evident that besides bold compositions and colors, the children displayed creativity, rich imagination, and the parents’ dedication. Many of the artworks expressed the children’s desire for a beautiful, peaceful, inclusive world, some even depicting scenes from the universe – a world that children hope for. She hoped that the event would be a success with the participation of children, as they all move towards a better future together.

During the event, community contribution awards were presented to teachers Tao Wenjun, Zhang Daqian, Huang Shuling, Huang Yongci, and Zhu Feng, and the attending judges Guo Beili and Yu Minmin were also introduced.

After everyone admired the exhibited works, Luo Xiujun announced that the top three works would be sent to participate in the national children’s painting competition. The winners will be announced on August 17. She encouraged more children to sign up for the 2025 competition.

The judging criteria were based on 40% theme presentation, 30% overall visual effect, and 30% creative performance. The top three winners received $150, $100, and $50 respectively, along with medals and certificates. Excellent works also received certificates and cash prizes.
