Hong Kong International Airport Selected as World’s Busiest Cargo Airport Again in 2023.

Hong Kong International Airport has once again been selected as the world’s busiest cargo airport for the year 2023, according to the latest data released by the Airports Council International on the 15th. The airport handled a total cargo volume of 4.3 million metric tonnes throughout the year. This marks the 13th time since 2010 that Hong Kong International Airport has been chosen as the busiest cargo airport globally.

Chairman of the Airport Authority Hong Kong, Jack So, expressed his pride in Hong Kong International Airport reclaiming its title as the busiest cargo airport in the world. He stated that this recognition showcases the airport’s exceptional efficiency and world-class cargo services, maintaining its leading position in a challenging environment. Air cargo is a crucial driving force supporting the growth of Hong Kong’s logistics industry and overall economic development. The Airport Authority will continue to work closely with the air cargo industry to enhance Hong Kong’s competitiveness as a global cargo hub.

To ensure that Hong Kong International Airport has sufficient capacity to meet long-term demand, the airport is currently undergoing expansion to become a three-runway system. Once completed and operational, the project will enable the airport to handle up to 10 million metric tonnes of cargo annually. The three-runway system is targeted to be completed by the end of this year, at which time all three runways will be in operation.
