Hong Kong Immigration Department’s New Headquarters in Tseung Kwan O to be Launched, Expected to Serve 6,500 Visitors Daily

The Immigration Department’s new headquarters located on Po Yick Road, Tseung Kwan O, was officially opened on the 11th. Immigration Department Director General Kwok Chun-fung stated that the operation of the new headquarters has been generally smooth. As of 10 a.m. this morning, approximately 400 people have used the services. It is expected that the new headquarters will serve around 6,500 people daily, similar to the old headquarters.

Kwok Chun-fung pointed out that with the new headquarters in operation, he is confident that the Immigration Department will provide better services to the public. The new building is located near Exit B of Tseung Kwan O MTR station and cost approximately 6.8 billion Hong Kong dollars. Kwok Chun-fung admitted that “Wan Chai is still more convenient than Tseung Kwan O,” but he believes that the public will get used to using the services in Tseung Kwan O.

He added that the transportation to the new headquarters is very convenient, just a few minutes’ walk from Tseung Kwan O MTR station. He believes that the public will quickly adapt and be willing to use services in Tseung Kwan O. In addition, many services can be processed electronically, including e-visas, online birth registration, and online application for SAR passports.

Currently, in Wan Chai, the old building that has been in use for 34 years, only the “Personnel Registration Office – Hong Kong Island Office” on the 8th floor continues to provide services, with all other services relocated to the new building.

Kwok Chun-fung stated that there are currently no other personnel registration offices on Hong Kong Island, so the Hong Kong Island personnel registration office is still open in the old Wan Chai headquarters building. He mentioned that the old Wan Chai headquarters may be dismantled after 2026, and a new office must be found before 2026.
