An exclusive one-day art exhibition in Hong Kong is set to take place at the Mayflower Studios in Southampton, England on June 7, 2025. Organized by the local City Life Church Southampton, the exhibition features a solo show by the Hong Kong-born, London-based exile artist couple, known as “Rinse and Repeat,” titled “FACES o’CLOCK: The Reborn Hong Kong Diaspora Exhibition.” The exhibition aims to showcase the resilience and hope of Hong Kong people in diaspora following the 2019 pro-democracy movement.
Renowned for their profound social conscience and emotional impact, Rinse and Repeat have exhibited their works in cities like Paris, New York, and Prague. This exhibition presents twenty recent oil paintings divided into three sections: “Night,” “Dawn,” and “Day,” starting from the 2019 social movement in Hong Kong and extending to the identity reconstruction and spiritual rebirth of Hong Kong emigrants in the UK. Through portraits, the exhibition tells the collective memory and conveys the strength of maintaining beliefs in the face of displacement and political suppression.
Curator Elaine stated that the vision of the exhibition is to unite the Hong Kong community in the UK, not only to reflect on the 2019 Hong Kong democracy movement but also to remind why they chose to start anew in this land of hope and how to continue moving forward in love, hope, and resilience. The exhibition also invites British society and everyone who cares about dignity, justice, and freedom to gain a deeper understanding of why so many Hong Kong people choose to settle roots here and appreciate the universal human resonance and values transcending regions and cultures.
The opening ceremony, to be held at 11 a.m., will be attended by Councillor James Baillie of Southampton City and Church leader Paul Woodman to show their support. The artists will also be present to share their creative process. There will be artist-led tours on the day conducted in both English and Cantonese.
