Hong Kong Cultural and Creative Hub held its establishment ceremony yesterday.

The Cultural, Sports and Tourism Bureau’s Creative Industries Development Department, established on the 14th of this month, held its inaugural ceremony yesterday afternoon. Renowned local artist Mountain Man produced a promotional video showcasing various fields of Hong Kong’s cultural and creative industry, including film, architecture, fashion, graphic design, and product design. The featured works span from the 1950s and 60s to the past 10 to 20 years.

Last year’s Policy Address announced the restructuring of “Creative Hong Kong” into the Creative Industries Development Department. Established in June 2009, “Creative Hong Kong” was dedicated to promoting the development of Hong Kong’s creative industries. The government states that the Creative Industries Department will play a more proactive and positive role in enhancing support for the cultural, artistic, and creative sectors.

The department will also establish a new task force to actively seek opportunities for related industries outside Hong Kong, actively leading industry delegations to participate in exhibitions and performances around the world, exporting Hong Kong’s cultural and creative industries, and expanding business opportunities for the industry.
