Hong Kong concert stage catches fire, Mayday announces tonight’s performance postponed

After a year, Mayday brought their “Back to That Day” 25th-anniversary tour back to Hong Kong. The band held 7 concerts at the Central Harbourfront Event Space. However, on the first night of the performance, heavy rain forced an early end to the show, and today (May 1), there was a fire incident involving stage props, prompting the emergency announcement of the concert being postponed by Believe Music.

Mayday returned to Hong Kong’s Central Harbourfront Event Space for the first time in a year to perform. Yesterday (April 30), as the concert was nearing its end, it was disrupted by heavy rain. Today, a fire broke out involving stage props, leading Believe Music to urgently announce the postponement of the concert scheduled for tonight.

In a statement released today, Believe Music said, “Due to the extreme adverse weather conditions and heavy rain last night, some stage equipment malfunctioned. In order to ensure the safety of the audience, staff, and artists, after careful evaluation, we regret to inform you that tonight’s performance will be postponed.”

After the last-minute announcement of the concert being postponed, several mainland Chinese tourists were seen expressing their frustration and seeking information about the next steps from event staff.

According to reports from “Hong Kong 01,” these mainland Chinese tourists were unhappy with the follow-up arrangements made by the organizers. When the staff informed them to stay tuned for updates on official websites like Facebook or Instagram, the tourists questioned how they could access these sites in China (given the internet restrictions). They hoped to receive a solution to this issue.

The organizers also announced the rescheduled dates for the postponed performances later this evening. They expressed deep apologies for the inconvenience caused to all ticket holders and stated that all audience members could use their original tickets dated May 1, 2024, to attend the concerts scheduled for May 5 and May 9, 2024, or apply for a refund unconditionally. Further details and arrangements will be communicated by the organizers, Team High Entertainment, in consultation with relevant parties as soon as possible on the official platforms of Team High Entertainment and Believe Music.
