37-year-old mainland Chinese actor Yu Menglong fell to his death from an apartment building in Beijing’s Chaoyang District on the 11th. The police quickly ruled out any criminal suspicions within 24 hours, but many doubts surrounding the incident have been circulating widely on the internet.
Hong Kong actor Chen Xiaodong, who appeared with Yu Menglong on the variety show “Chase the Light! Brother” questioned the cause of Yu Menglong’s death in a social media post titled “Isn’t it difficult to be open and honest?” The post was quickly deleted.
The first account to break the news of Yu Menglong’s fall and death was a Weibo account named “Detective Xiao Yan,” which on the 11th disclosed that on the night of September 10th, Yu Menglong had dinner with five or six friends at a friend’s house and went to his room alone, locked the door, and went to sleep around 2 am. The account also mentioned he had two friends’ Rolex watches in his pocket when he fell and the mosquito net was manually pulled open.
At 6:44 pm on September 11th, Yu Menglong’s studio official Weibo posted a mourning post stating that Yu Menglong passed away due to a fall on September 11, 2025, and the police had already ruled out criminal suspicion.
Despite the Chaoyang District police in Beijing swiftly concluding the case within 12 hours and stating “criminal suspicion is ruled out,” a writer named Luban posted detailing 14 points of doubt. These include questioning how a young, handsome, and successful person could suddenly, without any warning, jump from a building? Why choose a fifth floor that may not be fatal? Why are there visible scratches on the window? Why jump to the conclusion of suicide so quickly? Luban insists on the possibility of “murder,” emphasizing that the whole case was suppressed because the perpetrator had a strong background.
Due to the numerous doubts in the case details, the incident continues to escalate. Many netizens have flooded the social media accounts of relevant individuals demanding answers. However, those involved have denied any connection to the incident, claiming they were not present at the scene that night.
After the “Detective Xiao Yan” account was banned, Hong Kong singer Chen Xiaodong, on the 13th, wrote in a post titled “Isn’t it difficult to be open and honest?”: “Why is there no one present expressing genuine emotions at the moment? Even if they were to provide evidence in court, why does it seem like everything is being deleted? It’s really sad, with no surveillance cameras nor eyewitnesses present? Everything seems so indifferent. Hoping for a fair investigation… the world needs more light. It’s raining outside again. Clouded.”
When netizens asked, “Are you referring to Yu Menglong?” Chen Xiaodong liked the comment, confirming the implication. Touched netizens said, “Brother Xiaodong, I wasn’t your fan before, but now I am your loyal fan!” Hoping for more attention to be paid to Yu Menglong’s death.
However, Chen Xiaodong’s post was brief and soon disappeared mysteriously in less than a day. This sparked outrage among netizens. Some commented under Chen Xiaodong’s post on Xiaohongshu, “Was it taken down by the platform?” Chen Xiaodong directly liked this comment, which was tantamount to acknowledging that the post had been removed by the authorities.
Moreover, Yu Menglong’s screenwriter friend Wang Yucen mentioned their friendship on Weibo. She revealed that when she attempted suicide, Yu Menglong reached out to help her twice. The first time was on New Year’s Eve in 2019 when she was feeling down, and he sent a message saying “Happy New Year” at midnight, sensing something was off, ultimately preventing the tragedy. The second time was on New Year’s Eve in 2023 when she was about to attempt suicide again but gave up due to Yu Menglong’s messages and patient guidance.
Wang Yucen shared screenshots of her conversations with Yu Menglong, where he warmheartedly encouraged her with words like, “From today, we can’t think about these negative things anymore. The new year is about to start. We’re not living just for ourselves, we have many family members who love us. We can’t keep thinking like children.” She mentioned that Yu Menglong admitted to being occasionally pessimistic but found courage upon seeing the sun and even asked for a promise to never have self-harming thoughts again.
Now, with Yu Menglong’s passing, Wang Yucen is emotionally devastated, recalling his warm encouragement. Many netizens expressed disbelief that Yu Menglong, a person who cherished life so much, would choose to end his own life, questioning the true reason behind his fall.
Five days after Yu Menglong’s passing, on the 16th, the studio suddenly posted a screenshot claiming to be a post from Yu Menglong’s mother, stating that he fell from drinking alcohol accidentally, and the aftermath has been dealt with, urging netizens not to make random guesses anymore.
However, many netizens remain skeptical and strongly question the authenticity of the statement: “No official seal, no notice, why should we believe you!” “Just typing some words makes it Yu Menglong’s mother?” “Hard to accept!”
