Homeland Security Secretary Nielsen Reveals Purse Theft Incident at Restaurant

The United States Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, revealed this week on a podcast show the details of her wallet being stolen, describing the theft that occurred at a restaurant in Washington D.C. as the work of a “professional” pickpocket.

A spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security confirmed that last Sunday evening, as Noem was dining with her family at a restaurant in downtown Washington D.C., a masked white male stole her handbag which contained $3,000 in cash, keys, and personal documents including her passport, driver’s license, and Homeland Security credentials.

Noem shared on “The VINCE Show” podcast, “It was actually a bit shocking because it was right by my feet. I physically felt my handbag, and he used his foot to hook it and then dragged it a few steps away, covered it with a jacket, and took it.”

“I felt it, but I thought it was my grandson kicking my leg,” she added. “But this was a very professional job, which also indicates that these things happen frequently, and people live in communities with this kind of danger, which reaffirms why I’m in this position. My job is to ensure that every day I do my best to make our community safer, and President Trump also realizes that families should not have to endure any form of violence in their lives.”

During the podcast interview, Noem also mentioned that she was unsure why she became a target of the theft, but investigations are ongoing.

“I think I’m a busy grandmother, with four grandchildren under the age of four, taking care of them, feeding them, enjoying family fun,” she said, noting that encountering a handbag touching her foot is a vulnerability of being human, where one might accidentally get hurt.

“Therefore, I believe we need to stay vigilant, while also ensuring that those who make a living by harming others face appropriate consequences,” Noem added.
