The campaign team of Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential candidate and Vice President of the United States, stated on Monday (November 4) that the final result of the 2024 election may take several days to be announced, urging people to remain patient.
The chair of Kamala Harris’ campaign team, Jen O’Malley Dillon, told reporters on Monday: “We believe this campaign will be a close race. So, we may not know the election results for several days, but it is crucial for us to stay calm and confident throughout the entire process. We truly understand that as a campaign team, we play a vital role in keeping people calm, communicating, and maintaining transparency in our process.”
She mentioned that the early election results from battleground states like Georgia and North Carolina on Tuesday night, as well as Virginia, Florida, Ohio, and Colorado among other states, will be “informative,” but it’s important to interpret these results cautiously.
She also cautioned, “You have to be very careful not to overinterpret the results of any one state because in this election cycle and this election, states may not progress in sync as they have in the past.”
O’Malley Dillon stated that according to Harris’ campaign team’s estimates, by the end of Tuesday night, the results in Georgia, North Carolina, and Michigan will be “close to completion,” while Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Arizona will have “partial results.”
She said the campaign team also anticipates that by early Wednesday morning, Wisconsin will have “the majority of results,” with Pennsylvania and Michigan also having more results. Beyond Wednesday, it is expected that Pennsylvania, Arizona, and Nevada will have “more results.”
“Remember, some districts will continue counting votes for days,” she summarized. In Nevada, valid mail-in ballots are expected to arrive by Saturday, and Pennsylvania will not start counting provisional ballots until Friday.
“This means that in the days following election day, we will continue to see reports of new ballots. This is clearly not a sign of fraud,” she added. “It is just the way the counting process operates.”
In the 2020 presidential election, Joe Biden did not announce his victory until the following Saturday after election day—four days later.
