Hidden Cameras Resurface in Southern California Community, Possibly Linked to Home Burglaries

The Arcadia Police Department in Southern California has reported the discovery of hidden surveillance cameras in a community once again, initially noticed by a local homeowner.

According to a police spokesperson speaking to reporters, there is currently only speculation regarding the purpose of the cameras, but authorities have previously indicated that this practice is often associated with home burglaries.

The announcement by the police stated that the camera was first spotted by a homeowner near the 1600 block of Oakwood Avenue in Arcadia on the evening of July 6.

It was reported that the camera was hidden in the bushes in front of a residence, enabling surveillance of multiple households. The camera was connected to a mobile hotspot, potentially for uploading footage via cloud applications.

In a press release, the police mentioned that thieves use such methods for reconnaissance, gathering community information and homeowners’ daily routines.

To prevent thefts, residents are advised by the police to install home security systems, maintain good nighttime lighting, secure all doors and windows, and keep properties clean, avoiding unnecessary clutter.

Two months ago, a community in San Bernardino County also discovered a camera.

A report from the Chino Hills Police Department confirmed that a camera found on Glen Ridge Drive in the city, hidden under a tree and equipped with a battery pack.

Footage captured by a neighbor’s camera showed a Caucasian adult male placing the camera on April 29. On May 1, a homeowner reported the finding to authorities immediately.

In the video, the man is seen riding an electric skateboard while wearing a helmet. Officials stated that the case is under investigation by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office, and there are no further updates at the moment.

On June 17, in a community in Alhambra, Los Angeles County, a camera hidden in the bushes and aimed at homeowners’ residences was discovered by a neighbor.

Earlier that day, the home security system alerted to an attempted break-in of the kitchen window, with police subsequently releasing information on social media.

The police mentioned that the suspect in this case is still at large. ◇
