In a recent report by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), it was stated that Hassan Khalil Yassin, a senior leader of the Hezbollah intelligence network, was killed in a new round of precise strikes on Beirut on Saturday, September 28th.
Yassin was responsible for identifying civilian and military targets located in the northern border and deep inside Israeli territory. The IDF announced that the airstrikes targeting Beirut were led by the Israeli Military Intelligence agency shortly after Hezbollah confirmed the death of their leader, Hassan Nasrallah.
According to the IDF, senior Hezbollah intelligence leader Yassin was killed in an airstrike on the Dahiyeh area of Beirut, orchestrated by the Israeli military intelligence agency. Yassin’s duties involved close cooperation with all Hezbollah attacking units, actively planning terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians and soldiers, with intentions to carry out more attacks in the coming days.
The death of Nasrallah, the leader of Hezbollah, who was killed by Israel on Friday, September 27th, was described by US President Biden as a moment of justice served, while also calling for a de-escalation of tensions in the region.
The loss of Nasrallah dealt a significant blow to Hezbollah and had implications for Iran, as he played a vital role in the “Axis of Resistance,” an Iran-supported region known for its anti-Israel stance.
Since the Hamas raid on Israel and the subsequent Gaza War in October last year, Hezbollah has been launching rockets towards Israel almost daily, in support of their ally Hamas.
On Saturday, the IDF also announced that on Friday night, they targeted rocket and missile launch sites near the Syrian border, as well as smuggling routes used by Hezbollah.
According to the IDF, these weapons and components were smuggled from the east into Lebanon, then transported to the production sites where various weapons, including precision guided missiles, were being manufactured for attacks against Israel.
The Israeli military continued to strike more Hezbollah targets in Lebanon on Saturday afternoon, including launchers that Hezbollah had attempted to use to fire at Israel. Israeli media reported that these targets also included Hezbollah’s infrastructure and weapon storage facilities.
Hezbollah has yet to make a public response to the statements from Israel.
