Recently, the DC film industry has found a new “Superman” candidate, and it is no longer possible for Henry Cavill, who used to play Superman, to return to play “Superman” in DC. Interestingly, Cavill once caused DC Studios to spend an extra $24 million because he did not shave, which was higher than Dwayne Johnson’s paycheck.
According to “Fandomwire,” last year, there were rumors that Henry Cavill was joining Marvel, and due to Cavill’s strong physique, some fans believed he would be suitable to play “Wolverine.” Recently, Cavill has indeed appeared in “Deadpool and Wolverine,” playing a variant of “Wolverine,” fulfilling the expectations of many fans.
Yesterday, Cavill even talked about his cameo appearance as the angry version of “Wolverine” on IG, jokingly referring to the five-year-old controversial shaving incident, saying that this time for this character, he made some sacrifices, “for safety reasons, I shaved my beard, only the beard.”
Around 2017, there was controversy over whether Cavill could shave due to his roles as Superman in “Justice League” and a bearded spy in “Mission: Impossible – Fallout.”
According to “Fandomwire,” there was a dispute between the “Justice League” crew and the “Mission: Impossible” crew because the former wanted Cavill to shave, while the latter prohibited it, directly affecting the schedule and budget of “Justice League.” In the end, DC spent $24 million to digitally remove Cavill’s beard, costing more than Dwayne Johnson’s paycheck.
Furthermore, Cavill previously played “Superman” in Zack Snyder’s “Man of Steel” and later made a cameo as Wolverine in Marvel.
Zack Snyder, who directed “Man of Steel” (2013), “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” (2016), and “Justice League” (2017) before leaving DC, spoke about the matter in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, saying, “I haven’t seen it yet, but I’ve heard about it, and it sounds interesting.” Snyder said that Cavill’s performance in Marvel would be better than at other studios.
Zack Snyder left the DC film industry after directing “Man of Steel,” “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” and “Justice League.” Now, James Gunn is directing the new “Superman” movie for DC, with American actor David Corenswet playing the role of “Superman” Clark Kent.
However, Snyder also expressed his willingness to see Cavill play “Superman” again, “Well, Henry is obviously a great Superman to me. I hired him to be Superman, so any missed opportunities are regrettable. From that perspective, it would be great to have more of Henry’s involvement; I always feel there can never be too much of Henry.”
As for fans wondering how Cavill appeared in “Deadpool and Wolverine,” director Shawn Levy told “Variety” on the 5th: “If we are going to talk about him, we must refer to him by his real name: Cavillerine, created by Ryan Reynolds.”
Levy said, “When Ryan came up with the term, I knew it was unquestionable.” “Because he knew it would be subversive and fun, based on his love for him and his work.” Levy stated that Cavill now appears as a variant of a Marvel hero, leveraging his assets as a DC superhero.
So far, it is uncertain whether Cavill will continue in Marvel, but through this character, Marvel may have opened the door to Cavill’s future.
