Henan High School Under Fire for Running “Film and Television Directing Supplemental Classes” for Profit.

Recently, Ms. Meng from Henan Province disclosed to Epoch Times that the North City High School in Yanjin County was holding “scriptwriting and directing classes” to attract students. Due to high tuition fees and unstable teaching staff, students have been requesting refunds, but they have faced various obstacles from the school.

According to Ms. Meng, the North City School in Yanjin County is the largest private school in the county. The school and other institutions organized “scriptwriting and directing classes”, charging each student 10,500 yuan, with no tangible learning outcomes. This year, her child only scored just over 460 points in the high school entrance examination, indicating poor educational effectiveness.

Ms. Meng told Epoch Times reporters, “In the second semester of my child’s senior year, the tuition fee was 6,800 yuan, and they paid 10,500 yuan for the scriptwriting and directing class. In January this year, my child texted the class teacher about refunding the fee, but received no response. I contacted the teacher multiple times until May, but they evaded the issue, claiming that fees couldn’t be refunded for those maintaining student status. On June 17, I called Director Zhang Yong three times, but he didn’t answer or reply to my messages.”

“As a school leader, Director Zhang Yong didn’t answer calls or texts. Each student pays 6,800 yuan for a semester, deducting 5,800 yuan for students participating in independent enrollments (not taking the national college entrance exam), refunding only 1,000 yuan. My child was enrolled independently, paid 6,800 yuan for the next semester, never attended classes at the school due to independent enrollment, but no refund has been issued so far, nor any explanation.”

“This school has a tainted reputation, always burying incidents through connections. According to classmates, refunds are delayed to collect new students’ fees first before returning money. I reported to the Education Bureau of Yanjin County, Xinxiang City, Henan Province on June 24, only then did they notify other students about refunds,” she said.

Currently, the school is only willing to refund a portion of the 6,800 yuan tuition fee, refusing to refund the full 10,500 yuan for the scriptwriting and directing classes. Some students received a 1,000 yuan refund, some received 3,400 yuan, citing student status retention by the school.

However, the Education Bureau of Yanjin County, Xinxiang City, Henan Province has not responded to Ms. Meng’s report. Ms. Meng also inquired with bureau staff whether the North City School’s “scriptwriting and directing supplementary classes” had approval procedures but received no response.

On July 10, Ms. Meng posted on Weibo an article titled “Teaching and Educating or Money-Making Institution?!” revealing the situation at North City School in Yanjin County, prompting responses from many parents of students at the school: “(The school) is no good, indeed money-driven!”; “Teachers change frequently every semester.”; “They are ruthless in demanding money! Changing teachers so often, switching classes and teachers, students can’t adapt and learn properly.”; “Frequent teacher changes raise suspicions about teaching staff.”

Ms. Meng mentioned that after posting about the school on Weibo, “On the 11th morning, the class teacher texted my child, asking for our address and threatening my child. If they threaten my child for our address, I will expose their conduct at any time, as the school has repeatedly visited students’ homes looking for parents. In the afternoon, someone claiming to be Principal Yang from the school promised over the phone to refund the 6,800 yuan tuition fee. I couldn’t verify his identity and didn’t say much. I am awaiting a written response from the Education Bureau.”

Epoch Times contacted Director Zhang of North City School in Yanjin County to verify the situation. He said, “In China, there are indeed such professional departments. Not refunding fees? What kind of supplementary class doesn’t refund fees? This is unfounded. Claims of frequent teacher turnover are also unfounded. Many things online can be distorted, and I can’t reveal more here.”
