He Li-ming elected President of South Korea; Lai Ching-teh hopes to deepen Taiwan-South Korea relations.

Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen has extended sincere congratulations to the newly elected and inaugurated South Korean President Lee Jae-myung, of the Democratic Party. The Taiwan Presidential Office spokesperson, Kuo Yahuai, expressed hopes for further deepening bilateral relations between Taiwan and South Korea and contributing to peace in the Indo-Pacific region.

The 21st presidential election in South Korea concluded with Democratic Party candidate Lee Jae-myung winning with 49.42% of the vote. Lee was officially inaugurated as President of South Korea on June 4th, with a simple ceremony held in the National Assembly.

The Taiwan Presidential Office issued a press release today congratulating Lee Jae-myung on his successful election and inauguration as the 21st President of South Korea. Kuo Yahuai conveyed President Tsai Ing-wen’s sincere congratulations to the people of South Korea and to President Lee Jae-myung on behalf of the government and people of Taiwan.
