In the wake of the global chocolate trend in Dubai, more and more food items are incorporating pistachios. At the warehouse-style chain store Costco in the United States, a new and popular Dubai chocolate-flavored cake has been introduced, attracting members to rush for it and selling out quickly.
Thanks to the strong visual appeal of pistachios, all forms of pistachio-based foods have become increasingly popular. A year and a half ago, a chocolate shop called Fix Dessert Chocolatier in the UAE launched Dubai chocolate, quickly gaining fame and inspiring numerous imitations worldwide. Dubai chocolate combines the flavors of chocolate, pistachios, and sesame sauce, paired with a crispy crust, inspired by the traditional Arab dessert Knafeh.
The new cake at Costco showcases the authentic layers of Dubai chocolate in a unique way, with each layer enveloping rich chocolate, creamy pistachio filling, and a crispy crust. The cake is also drizzled with a layer of rich ganache, made from a blend of chocolate and fresh cream.
Each slice of Dubai chocolate cake is priced at $18.99 at Costco stores. If ordered through Costco’s same-day delivery service, the price goes up to $21.55.
Despite being slightly more expensive than other cakes at Costco (a 10-inch round cake at Costco sells for $10.99), this Dubai chocolate cake weighs a hefty 26 ounces.
Costco fans are eager to visit nearby stores to grab this newly launched cake, although not everyone is able to purchase it. Costco members who have tried this cake are ecstatic. “We got it, it tastes rich and delicious,” commented one Instagram user.
“It’s really delicious,” added another user. “Simply too delicious,” said a third user.
Food website thekitchn describes the combination of chocolate and pistachios as unmatched. The cake’s visual presentation is stunning: clean, layered, with the deep brown of chocolate contrasting beautifully with the light green of pistachio cream, all topped with a smooth ganache layer.
Regarding the taste, the article points out that the balance of chocolate and pistachios is just right. With layers of cake and cream, it has a rich texture without feeling heavy. Since the cake is topped with ganache, it’s best served chilled.
However, members across the U.S. have reported that the cake has not arrived in their local stores. One customer wrote on Instagram, “I called the Costco near me, and they can’t find the SKU in the southeastern part of Michigan.” Another customer wrote, “Which states have this cake? Definitely not California.”
Reader’s Digest reports that the cake is available for same-day delivery in the New York City area.
Furthermore, as Dubai chocolate is one of the most popular desserts this year, in stores where this cake is available, it is likely to sell out quickly. Once sold out, it’s unclear when restocking will occur, or if it will be restocked at all.
Over the past year or so, Costco has introduced a variety of Dubai-style chocolate products to meet the needs of snack enthusiasts. Earlier this month, the large supermarket chain rolled out mini Dubai chocolate ice cream sandwiches, and recently consumers have spotted mini Dubai chocolate bars at different stores. Costco is also known for selling Dubai chocolate ice cream bars and mini cones filled with Dubai chocolate.
