Recently, a man from Hangzhou claimed to have found a mouse head in a bowl of Uni-President Old Temple Sauerkraut Beef Noodles, sparking attention. The company responded that further confirmation and verification are needed.
According to the “Xiaoxiang Morning Post,” a netizen posted a video on July 14th claiming to have discovered foreign objects in the Uni-President Old Temple Sauerkraut Beef Noodles, saying, “This is a mouse head, from inside the sauerkraut, I even took a bite.”
The pictures uploaded by the netizen showed an unidentified object near the Uni-President sauerkraut package. Upon closer inspection, it appeared to have sharp teeth and whiskers. On the packaging of the Uni-President Old Temple Sauerkraut Beef Noodles, there was a label that read, “See the production line from the safe factory, scan the code to view.” Scanning the adjacent QR code reveals videos of the Uni-President instant noodle production line and Old Temple sauerkraut storage room.
According to “Citizens’ Concerns” report, Mr. Wu, the person involved, stated that he purchased the Uni-President Old Temple Sauerkraut Beef Noodles at a small shop on the 14th. When he consumed it that evening, he found a mouse head in the noodles and has filed a complaint with the local market supervision department. He said, “Getting ready to eat the sauerkraut, it smelled fishy when picked up and put in my mouth, spat out to find hair, and teeth, it was a mouse head.”
On the afternoon of July 15th, the person who reported finding the mouse head in his food released another video, stating that “Uni-President staff are dealing with it,” but subsequent videos of the process were not accessible. Reporters from “Xiaoxiang Morning Post” attempted to message the person involved privately but were unable to do so due to privacy settings.
The “Xiaoxiang Morning Post” called the consumer hotline of Hunan Uni-President Enterprise Food Co., Ltd. A staff member confirmed that they have arranged for a specialist to contact the consumer for verification, and contact has been made. The specific situation needs to be confirmed and verified. The sauerkraut package in the instant noodles has a partnered supplier, and the packaging contains a QR code that reveals the factory of origin upon scanning.
This incident has once again raised public concern over food safety issues.
There are voices of concern from the public, stating, “Food safety is worrying,” “Food safety has always been a concern, even with meat buns sold outside, one never knows what kind of meat is used.”
“Sauerkraut swallowed a mouse, got packaged into the sauerkraut package, the mouse head was cut into pieces by the machine, each piece the size of a fork. How many times has the sauerkraut issue been exposed without resolution, the sauerkraut is purchased, what quality assurance is there? The other ingredient packages are made from dried vegetables, light in weight, easy to detect, can’t see a mouse head.”
“Can Uni-President guarantee themselves, can they guarantee their partners? The sauerkraut package has another supplier, can Uni-President monitor the product quality one by one? Nowadays, ready-to-eat foods and semi-finished products are often produced with partners, solely relying on one factory is difficult to produce a variety of flavors!”
“Purchased Uni-President Old Temple Sauerkraut Beef Noodles at a small shop! Especially in rural small shops, fake products abound, with little oversight! This incident of mixing kerosene and edible oil went unreported or unregulated? It has become a turning point for food safety.”
However, some netizens expressed skepticism, “This mouse head is too clear, too unquestionable, making it hard to believe that during the process of making sauerkraut, the sauerkraut was all chopped up, yet the mouse head managed to escape.” “This mouse head is too big, no seasoning packet would overlook such a thing! Obtaining evidence is difficult, it is hoped that all packaging bags are kept for inspection!”
“I just think that with the amount of sauerkraut packets nowadays, it would be difficult to fit only one mouse head in there.” “In theory, a single ingredient package carries a mouse head? It’s hard to believe, small fragments aside, if it’s true, it’s truly disgusting!”
