Haiti’s Foreign Minister and Spouse Lead Delegation to Visit Taiwan, Will Meet with Lai Ching-Te

The Foreign Minister of the Republic of Haiti, Jean-Victor Harvel Jean-Baptiste, along with his entourage, visited Taiwan on the 7th of July. They are set to meet with Taiwan’s President, Tsai Ing-wen, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed a warm welcome to their visit.

In the morning of the 7th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China issued a press release stating that Foreign Minister Jean-Victor Harvel Jean-Baptiste, in response to the government’s invitation, arrived in Taiwan on the 7th and will stay until the 11th for his official visit. The delegation includes the Minister’s wife, Tatiana Florencio Silva Jean-Baptiste, and the Director of the Minister’s Office, Claude Jeudy, among other members.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China mentioned that Vice Minister Chen Ming-chi welcomed the delegation at the airport on the morning of the 7th, expressing a sincere welcome. This visit marks the first time Foreign Minister Jean-Victor Harvel Jean-Baptiste has visited Taiwan and aims to reinforce the importance Haiti places on the friendship between the two nations.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China announced that President Tsai Ing-wen is scheduled to meet with Foreign Minister Jean-Victor Harvel Jean-Baptiste and his entourage on the 8th. In order to enhance cooperation and exchanges in various fields between Taiwan and Haiti, Minister Jean-Baptiste will also meet with Minister of Foreign Affairs Joseph Wu to discuss bilateral cooperation and mutual concerns, as well as attend a dinner hosted by Minister Wu and his spouse.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China stated that Minister Jean-Victor Harvel Jean-Baptiste will also visit the Southern Science Park, Chi Mei Hospital, the National Palace Museum, Taipei 101, and meet with Haitian scholarship students in Taiwan to learn about their educational and living situations.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China emphasized that “Taiwan and Haiti have been diplomatic partners for 69 years, with a strong friendship. The two countries have closely cooperated and achieved remarkable results in fields such as social security, sustainable agriculture, public health, and education.”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China added, “Foreign Minister Jean-Victor Harvel Jean-Baptiste has always been a staunch supporter of the friendship between Taiwan and Haiti, including sending a letter to the Director-General of the World Health Organization in May this year, supporting Taiwan’s participation in the World Health Assembly as an observer. The visit by Foreign Minister Jean-Baptiste and his delegation aims to enhance bilateral interactions and exchanges, contributing to the continued deepening of the long-standing friendly cooperation between the two countries.”
