Recently, a bizarre theft case occurred in Hongqi Town, Qiongshan District, Haikou, Hainan. A woman disguised herself as a relative of the newlyweds and sneaked into the new house during the lively wedding to steal the wedding gifts. She was caught by villagers while trying to escape. The villagers posted the video online, sparking discussions.
According to reports from the Netease account “Xiaomiya’s Story” and others, on March 3rd, a wedding was held in a rural area in Haikou City, Hainan, where the bride and groom entertained their relatives and friends at home.
Unexpectedly, while the newlyweds and their guests were outside playing games and taking photos, a middle-aged woman entered the newlyweds’ room and began rummaging through things. The bride happened to walk in on this scene.
Seeing a stranger rummaging through her room, the bride initially thought it was a relative she didn’t know from the groom’s side since many unfamiliar relatives had attended the wedding. The bride tentatively asked about the woman’s identity, but she remained silent. When the woman turned around, the bride saw the stolen wedding gifts in her hands, realizing she was a thief. She immediately shouted to catch the thief, and the woman ran downstairs. At that time, the villagers downstairs hadn’t reacted yet, and by the time they did, the woman had already run out of the house.
The groom quickly called the groomsmen to chase after her, but even though several groomsmen tried, they couldn’t catch her. Later, other guests gave up eating and joined in the pursuit of the woman.
After being caught by the villagers, the woman was publicly humiliated and physically attacked, then tied to a tree until the police arrived upon receiving a report.
The video went viral online, sparking heated discussions. Many netizens felt that crashing a wedding for free food and drinks was tolerable, but stealing was crossing the line.
Some netizens pointed out that this woman was a habitual offender who had stolen in various places in Hainan. Some even shared photos of the woman attending other weddings, causing misunderstandings among those who thought she was a friend of the newlyweds.
Some netizens speculated that the gold jewelry seen on the woman in the video was probably stolen from elsewhere as well.
