On October 30, a landslide occurred in the Qiongzhong Li and Miao Autonomous County, Hainan Province, causing at least 3 deaths and 4 injuries.
Affected by the peripheral circulation of Typhoon “Tammy” and cold air, the county experienced heavy rainstorms. According to the Hainan Provincial Fire Department, on the morning of the 30th, a landslide occurred in Chongdalinzhen Shirencun, Shirencun Village Committee of Xiangzheng Township, Qiongzhong Li and Miao Autonomous County, burying 6 container houses.
At 8:30, some of the trapped individuals successfully rescued themselves or helped each other to escape, but 3 people remained trapped. By 12:33, all 3 trapped individuals had been rescued, with 1 pronounced dead on the scene and 2 others succumbing while being rushed to the hospital.
Furthermore, the Qiongzhong Li and Miao Autonomous County Emergency Command Center reported that there were 4 injured individuals at the scene, who were out of danger after being hospitalized.
China Weather Network mentioned that in terms of rainfall impact on Hainan, “Tammy” even surpassed Typhoon “Capricorn,” the strongest autumn typhoon to make landfall in China since meteorological records began – Typhoon No.11 of this year.
