On the afternoon of April 19, strong convective weather occurred in various parts of Guangxi, with areas such as Hechi and Baise being hit by fierce winds, heavy rain, and hail. Some roofs and cars were pierced, and dogs outdoors were killed by hail.
According to a report by CCTV on April 20, in the afternoon of the 19th, cities like Baise, Hechi, and Hezhou in Guangxi were severely affected by short-term strong winds, hail, and heavy rain. The strong winds caused some trees to fall, affecting traffic, and some houses suffered severe damage. On the afternoon of April 19, Yizhou District of Hechi City in Guangxi Province issued an orange hail warning signal.
Videos circulated online showed strong winds on a commercial street blowing away stalls and other items. Subsequently, dense hail fell from the sky, covering the ground in white.
A villager from Huaiyuan Town in Yizhou District, Hechi, told the Xinjing News that the hail was as big as chicken eggs. After ten minutes of hail, the roof of his house was pierced, and the flowers on the transplanted chili plants were all knocked off, leaving only a plant stem. There were also dogs in the village that were killed by the hail.
The villager explained that because the dog was guarding the house and the tent was blown away by the wind, the dog had nowhere to hide and was killed by the hail.
In addition, Dongleng Township and Siting Town in Yojang District, Baise City, also experienced heavy rain and hail. By around 17:00, the Baibei River Reservoir in Toudong Township, Tianyang District of Baise City, received 55.2 millimeters of rain in one hour (classified as heavy rain).
During the onslaught of fierce winds, heavy rain, and hail, trees along the roadside in Jiangfeng Village, Yojang District, Baise City, were blown down, the roofs of some factory buildings were overturned, and items in warehouses were affected.
Another netizen from Baise said, “Hail shattered the rear windshield of my house and dented the car body.” When they went to the repair shop, it was overcrowded, and they were told the wait was already over a month.
In response to the disaster situation, the Emergency Management Bureau of Yizhou District stated that there were no reports of casualties, and property losses were being calculated.
