Hong Kong’s Sing Tao Headline Website reported on May 13 that Lan Tianli, the Chairman of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region government of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), is under investigation, becoming another minority ethnic official of near-ministerial rank to fall from grace. As of the time of reporting by Epoch Times, the CCP has not officially confirmed Lan Tianli’s investigation.
According to reliable sources cited in the report, Lan Tianli was absent from two important events yesterday, May 12, including a meeting of the Autonomous Region Party Committee, and news of his being taken away has spread locally without specifying the exact reason.
Late on May 12, Australian anti-Communist internet personality Yin Ke (online alias: Jiang Wangzheng) revealed on his self-media program that Lan Tianli, Vice Secretary of the Autonomous Region Party Committee and Chairman of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, is under investigation, and alleged his involvement in the Jin Xiangjun case.
On the evening of April 12, officials announced that Jin Xiangjun, Governor of Shanxi Province, “is being investigated for suspected serious violations of discipline and law.” Jin Xiangjun became the 15th central government official to be investigated since the beginning of the year and the first provincial governor to be investigated in a post he held since the 19th National Congress of the CCP. It is reported that Jin Xiangjun’s downfall may be due to committing significant political taboos.
Jin Xiangjun had previously served in the Guangxi Autonomous Region.
Guangxi is one of the five major autonomous regions of the CCP.
Lan Tianli, born in October 1962, is Zhuang minority from Guangxi. He has long worked in Guangxi, serving as Deputy Director, Director, later as Mayor and Party Secretary of Hechi City.
In November 2011, he was promoted to Vice Chairman of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region government, became the Executive Vice Chairman in 2016, Chairman of the Guangxi Autonomous Region Political Consultative Conference in January 2018, and towards the end of 2020, he assumed the position of Vice Secretary of the Autonomous Region Party Committee and Chairman of the government.
Lan Tianli is a candidate member of the 18th and 19th Central Committees of the CCP, and a member of the 20th Central Committee.
