Incidents of mainland students dying during military training have occurred repeatedly.
In August, a 15-year-old female student died during military training at the Dongfang Lüzhou Scenic Area organized by a high school in Shanghai. The girl’s mother, Ms. Zhou, mentioned that her daughter had been admitted to the Jiating Branch School of Shanghai Jiaotong University Affiliated Middle School. On August 11, the school arranged for students to attend military training at the Dongfang Lüzhou Scenic Area. “I sent my child to the Jiating Branch School of Shanghai Jiaotong University Affiliated Middle School. The school arranged for a bus to take the children there,” she said, unaware of the accident that occurred during the three days of military training.
An online acquaintance claiming to have insider information mentioned that the incident happened on a hot day, and the students were undergoing high-intensity training. After feeling unwell, the girl went to the medical room but collapsed on her way there.
Around 2 p.m. on August 14, Ms. Zhou received a call from the class teacher informing her that her child was in the hospital and asked her to hurry. She rushed to the hospital, and on the way, the teacher said, “Hurry, your child’s condition is not good.” Upon arrival at the hospital, the doctor came out of the emergency room and said that the resuscitation efforts were ineffective. According to the China Meteorological Administration, the temperature in Shanghai that day reached as high as 36°C.
