Guangdong Man Goes Deaf After Being Sold to Myanmar by Girlfriend for 100,000 RMB

In February of this year, 19-year-old Xiao Huang from Guangdong was sold by his girlfriend for 100,000 RMB to a scam center in Myanmar. He was forced to participate in telephone scams daily and if he couldn’t meet the target, he would be beaten. He was even beaten so severely that he lost his hearing.

On August 17, Ms. Huang shared with the news that her brother was sold to Myanmar in detail. According to Ms. Huang, their family is from Zhanjiang, Guangdong, and they live in Guangzhou. Xiao Huang, her younger brother, is 19 years old, and his girlfriend Xiao Zhou is 17 years old. They met and started living together in a billiards hall in 2024. Xiao Zhou told Xiao Huang that she was from Fujian, and her parents were officials with investments in various places.

Ms. Huang described her first impression of Xiao Zhou as a “materialistic younger girl” with sexy attire and stylish accessories like designer bags, but they seemed to be replicas. She believed Xiao Zhou was deliberately presenting herself in a certain way, and the reality might not be as she claimed.

After they began dating, Xiao Zhou often mentioned that her family had business in Myanmar and hoped that Xiao Huang could work with her there. On February 2nd this year, Xiao Huang secretly went to Bangkok, Thailand with Xiao Zhou without informing his family.

“We only knew he went to Thailand when he posted on his social media.” Ms. Huang said. When Xiao Huang saw people waiting for him with guns and they confiscated his passport and phone, he begged Xiao Zhou to let him play with his phone so he could message his family, and they quickly contacted the police.

Upon reaching the Thai-Myanmar border, Xiao Zhou claimed she needed to meet someone and left Xiao Huang behind. He was taken by armed personnel to the Keerwin Park in Myanmar, where he was shaved bald and forced to work 16 to 20 hours a day typing to commit fraud. He was frequently beaten with sticks on his waist, whipped on his ears, couldn’t eat enough, and faced punishment if he didn’t meet targets, including being punched. Xiao Huang’s supervisor told him he was purchased for 100,000 RMB from Xiao Zhou and had to generate profit in the park.

Under intense torment, Xiao Huang lost weight and his hearing due to the beatings. Eventually, when they realized he was unsuccessful in scamming, they demanded compensation before he could return home.

His family members searched domestically and with the assistance of the Chaozhou Chamber of Commerce in Myanmar, they paid 350,000 RMB to rescue Xiao Huang and bring him home in June this year.

After Xiao Huang entered the park, Xiao Zhou spent 10 days playing in Thailand before being apprehended by the authorities upon her return. Currently, Xiao Zhou is suspected of fraud and will soon face prosecution by the judicial authorities in court.

Ms. Huang expressed that their entire family hopes Xiao Zhou will be severely punished. “Only 17 years old, who would have thought she could do such a terrible thing?”
