Guangdong High-Speed Train Suspected of Stopping at the Wrong Platform, Leaving Many Passengers Unable to Board

A train incident on September 30th involving the Guangdong intercity railway S4734 bound for Baiyun Airport North Station from Dongguan West Station has left passengers concerned after a suspected platform mix-up led to mass confusion and only one passenger boarding the train.

According to a post by the internet user “Bu Ru Shang Tian Kai Fan” on September 30th, the train was supposed to arrive at Platform 1 of Dongguan West Station as indicated to passengers waiting on that platform. However, the train ended up pulling into Platform 4 instead. Station staff on both platforms were seen “yelling across the tracks to confirm the train number”, and once they realized the mistake, they quickly opened the barrier and rushed over to Platform 4, where the sole passenger boarded the train.

On the afternoon of October 1st, Guangzhou Metro customer service personnel responded to inquiries from China Youth Daily “Qing Feng Xia”, stating that they are aware of the incident but have not yet received confirmation of the investigation results, which will be forwarded to the relevant department for further inquiry.

According to a report by Hong Kong’s “Ming Pao” on October 1st, the internet user mentioned that their post had been blocked by the platform.

The incident has sparked concerns among netizens, with many criticizing the operation of the Guangzhou Metro. Comments included, “The operation of Guangzhou Metro is truly terrible.” “It’s obviously the fault of the operational command, I don’t understand what those in charge of operation were doing.” “No need for verification. It’s clear they can’t protect the interests of the common people.”

Others remarked, “There were clearly plenty of empty seats, but university students couldn’t purchase student tickets! In the end, they had to settle for adult tickets after trying multiple options. The railway system has some serious issues.” “The platform heading from Dongguan to Huizhou clearly indicated it was an express train, but upon boarding, it turned out to be a stop at every station.”
