On August 8th and 9th, overseas Chinese in various parts of the world simultaneously released the “Declaration of Nationwide Resistance Movement”, exposing the atrocities of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) regime. The declaration aims to unite global Chinese people against authoritarianism, formulating international consensus to overthrow the CCP’s authoritarian rule. Human rights activists noted that with the strategic timing of global containment against the CCP, overseas anti-communist movements are witnessing intergenerational succession, with the younger generation injecting new vigor into the cause for change.
The “China Action” and “Citizens’ Resistance Association” jointly organized the global release event of the “Declaration of Nationwide Resistance Movement.” The goal is to consolidate the consensus and action power of global Chinese people to drive China’s societal transformation. According to the official account of “China Action,” the declaration was simultaneously released in cities such as New York, Washington, Los Angeles, San Francisco, London, Paris, Berlin, Toronto, Sydney, Tokyo, and more, sending a firm message of Chinese citizens’ resistance against authoritarianism and pursuit of freedom and democracy to the international community.
The event officially commenced in Central Park, New York on the morning of August 8th, where the spokesperson for “China Action,” Qiu Jiajun, announced the opening, and representatives of the Citizens’ Resistance Association such as Susan and Wu Shaoping took turns reading the full text of the declaration.
Non-violent resistance expert Hu Ping, human rights activist Zhou Fengsuo, and civil society representatives such as Yang Ruohui delivered speeches at the ceremony, emphasizing the necessity and urgency of resistance against authoritarian rule. Representative Huang Youxing from the 30th District of the New York City Council office also delivered a speech on the occasion.
On Saturday, August 9th, in front of the Capitol Building in Washington DC, around 10 Chinese nationals residing in the Greater Washington area held banners with slogans such as “Time is up, CCP go away” and “Stop CCP, Free China,” shouting demands like “Down with the Communist Party” and “Xi Jinping step down.”
Organizer Yang Zili told the Central News Agency that the goal of the event is to awaken unity among the people in China and call for them to “rise up and resist,” ultimately promoting democratization in China.
The dissemination event near the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, led by human rights activist Xiang Li and human rights activist Wang Han, read out the declaration. Leaders of the 1989 Democracy Movement Zhao Changqing and young representatives of the “Blank Paper Movement” gave speeches, expressing solidarity with the resistance action in Jiangyou, Sichuan. At the end of the ceremony, participants released balloons with the words “Go away CCP” along with the gesture for democracy and freedom, symbolizing a total rejection of the CCP and the authority of Xi Jinping. They called for closer connections and coordinated action among mainland Chinese and global Chinese communities to strive for a future of freedom and democracy.
This event quickly spread to cities worldwide, creating a collaborative effect. In Berlin, the event attracted representatives from organizations such as “Freedom for Hong Kong (Freiheit für Hongkong e.V.),” “Tibet Initiative Deutschland e.V.,” and the Society for Threatened Peoples (GfbV), as well as popular YouTuber Stan from Poland, exiled Hong Kongers, and Chinese dissidents.
The host of the event, Daniel Wang, a young representative of the “Blank Paper Movement,” stated in his speech, “When freedom is violated, resistance is our duty. We are gathered here today to declare: It’s time to take action, end tyranny, and usher in a new era of freedom and democracy!” This not only signifies the formation of a cross-cultural alliance but also highlights the emerging role of the younger generation in overseas resistance movements.
In London, the event took place near the Chinese Embassy on the afternoon of August 9th, attracting individuals concerned about China’s democratic progress from the local and neighboring cities. Writers Ma Jian and participated participants collectively shouted, “The time has come, we must take action with unparalleled determination and courage to end tyranny and create a new era of freedom and democracy!” Representatives from Xinjiang, former Hong Kong legislator Qian Baofen, and 1989 Democracy Movement leader Wang Chaohua took turns reading the declaration.
Chinese expatriates, youth, and students from various industries held orange promotional signs, chanting slogans like “Xi Jinping step down!,” “End the Communist Party’s rule!,” “Chinese people want freedom!” The gathering ended amidst music playing from the “Declaration of Nationwide Resistance Movement,” creating a solemn and passionate atmosphere.
On Saturday morning, August 9th, in Sydney, some democratization activists held a rally and reading ceremony at the Town Hall Square, calling for Chinese people from home and abroad to unite, overthrow CCP’s authoritarian rule, drive China towards democratic transformation, and achieve democracy, freedom, and constitutional governance.
The “China Action” released “Declaration of Nationwide Resistance Movement” explicitly states that the Chinese people, like all free peoples in the world, have unalienable rights.
However, since seizing power in 1949, the CCP has ruled through lies, violence, and terror, depriving people of basic human rights and freedoms, converting national resources into private property for a minority elite, leading to rampant societal corruption, drastic wealth disparity, and severe ecological destruction.
The declaration lists several crimes of the CCP, including falsifying or concealing vital information, habitually concealing major epidemics (e.g., in the early stages of the COVID-19 outbreak); corruption infiltrating every corner of society; desecration or interference with religious freedom; destruction of Hong Kong’s freedom and rule of law; inciting xenophobic nationalist sentiments to deflect internal conflicts; monopolizing media and conducting speech censorship; manipulating sham elections to maintain surface legitimacy; prioritizing repression of the people over defense against external enemies; persecuting dissenters demanding democracy and human rights, among others. These crimes are described as “too many to list,” highlighting the systemic tyranny of the CCP regime. Wang Han, who participated in the release event of the declaration in San Francisco, analyzed the moral responsibility and significance of overseas Chinese supporting domestic protesters in an interview with Epoch Times.
Wang noted that overseas Chinese, residing in relatively safe and free environments, have a duty to support individuals in China fighting for basic rights. He observed that recent brave actions of people in various parts of China taking to the streets reflect an accumulation of societal discontent. Therefore, overseas Chinese need to voice out publicly and take action to provide international support to domestic protesters while also defending their own rights.
He acknowledged that the CCP’s transnational crackdown and harassment of relatives in China are real challenges facing overseas Chinese. However, he emphasized that this sense of fear is gradually diminishing. Wang explained from a psychological perspective that when individuals overseas witness the brave actions of people in China, failing to support them would lead to a deep moral dilemma. This sense of responsibility has become a core driving force to overcome fear and continue participation in such activities.
Wang further assessed the international situation, stating that the free world in the West is gradually reaching a consensus on the CCP’s threat, recognizing its systematic violation of individual rights and interests globally. Despite policy differences within the free world, he predicted that the United States will ultimately take the lead, spearheading global efforts to counter CCP infiltration, including protecting key allies like Taiwan.
He believed that although this process takes time, the outlook is optimistic. The core significance of the “Nationwide Resistance Movement” is to convey a message of unity to people within China: they are not alone, the global community of Chinese longing for freedom is providing support, helping domestic aspirants see the consolidation of hope and international power.
Ms. Sheng Xue, Vice Chairman of the “Democracy China Front,” pointed out in an interview that there is a generational succession following the widespread protests overseas, with the participation of the younger generation symbolizing the passing of the movement to the next era. These new forces possess advantages in high-tech literacy and broad international perspectives, combining with the older generation to form a new strategic framework of cooperation across three generations. This not only represents the passing on of the torch of the anti-communist movement but also enhances its sustainability and influence.
Sheng analyzed that since Xi Jinping began his third term, his policy reversals have intensified resistance both at home and abroad. From Mongolia, Uyghurs, Tibetans to Hong Kong, resistance in different regions and ethnicities has formed an international alliance. The efforts of these groups have constructed a broad anti-authoritarian network in the international community. She objectively assessed that the CCP regime is now in a state of extreme anger and discontent, with internal contradictions escalating, and international tolerance at an all-time low, indicating that the time for change is ripe.
Recalling the early 1980s during the period of “reform and opening up,” Sheng reflected how the international community once held expectations for democratic transition in China, hoping it would gradually embrace universal values. However, the CCP cleverly utilized international assistance and investment to grow into a colossal authoritarian system. Now, most countries have soberly recognized its nature and will not be deceived again.
Of particular note is that since the beginning of US President Trump’s second term, the US-led comprehensive “de-Chinafication” strategy, including complete technological blockade, deepening of the Indo-Pacific strategy, and enhanced cooperation with Asian democratic nations, has placed the CCP in a strategic dilemma both internally and externally.
Sheng emphasized that the CCP regime’s atrocities have transcended domestic boundaries. Its brutal rule over the people and threats to world peace have prompted the international community to form a consensus that the CCP is not only a typical representative of authoritarian tyranny but also a significant challenge to the global democratic order. This historic consensus provides solid external support for overseas democratic movements, vigorously propelling structural changes toward China’s democratic transformation.
