37-year-old mainland Chinese actor Yu Menglong fell to his death from a building, under suspicious circumstances, but the Chinese Communist Party authorities are vigorously suppressing the truth. Hong Kong singer Niki Yip posted on Facebook on the 22nd, describing today’s entertainment industry in mainland China as being like the “Squid Game,” where the management holds all the power and ruthlessly manipulates artists. She lamented that this is a self-destructive and absurd generation, angrily blasting the mainland Chinese entertainment industry as being like a “Squid Game.”
The news of Yu Menglong’s fatal fall shocked the public. Although the police quickly “ruled out criminal suspicion” and categorized it as a “fall from a building due to alcohol consumption,” the public does not believe this explanation. There are continuous online rumors about “unspoken rules,” “being drugged and violated,” “being thrown off the building,” “being harmed,” “mothers being controlled,” and more. The rumors even involve the illegitimate child of a high-ranking Chinese official, as well as multiple screenwriters, directors, and producers in the film and television industry.
On the 21st, the Beijing Chaoyang Public Security Bureau issued a “police report,” stating that three individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident, with charges including “creating and spreading false information online for sensationalism, stitching together fake videos, and severely disrupting public order.” At the same time, the authorities punished mainstream platforms such as Weibo and Kuaishou for their inadequate handling of the Yu Menglong case, citing “failure to fulfill the responsibility of managing information content.”
Faced with the Chinese Communist Party’s escalating crackdown on public opinion, the cause of Yu Menglong’s death remains a mystery. On September 22nd, Hong Kong singer Niki Yip posted on Facebook in a white font on a gray background, saying, “Absurd generation, self-destruction,” angrily likening the mainland Chinese entertainment industry to a real-life version of the “Squid Game,” where the management is the most malicious, paying to play with lives.
Niki Yip further commented on the incident, pessimistically stating that although the case may not seem complicated, it is simply a case of conspiring against a disobedient child, but the truth may be hard to uncover. She believes that under the “perverse system,” there is no room for truth and justice. She lamented that in recent years, the unwritten rules have spread to younger generations, making it difficult to imagine how the situation has deteriorated to its current state, feeling both helpless and heartbroken.
At the age of 72, Niki Yip, who in the past spoke out against the mistreatment of the late singer Coco Lee by mainland television networks, expressed her sadness upon hearing about the unjust circumstances surrounding Yu Menglong’s mysterious fall. She remarked, “Everywhere I look, there is news about Yu Menglong. If China doesn’t handle this, it’s an international joke!”
