Germany Plans to Increase Aid to Ukrainian Military by 3.8 Billion Euros

On Tuesday, May 21, a source from the German Ministry of Finance revealed to Reuters that Germany plans to provide an additional 3.8 billion euros (approximately 41.3 billion US dollars) in military aid to Ukraine this year. This confirms a report by Germany’s largest newspaper, “Bild.”

According to “Bild,” Germany has already provided 7.1 billion euros in military assistance to Kyiv this year, but most of this funding has been allocated to various projects.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has called for additional aid to be sent to Ukraine, a request supported by Finance Minister Christian Lindner. The final approval from the parliament is expected in June.

While the exact figures have not been confirmed by a source within the German Ministry of Finance, it was stated that Germany’s support plan for Ukraine will not fail due to financial constraints.

Pistorius has requested an allocation of 15 billion euros in the 2025 budget for military assistance to Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy expressed in an interview with Reuters on Monday his hope for Western countries to expedite aid to help defend Ukrainian airspace.

Zelenskiy emphasized the critical situation on the battlefield. In recent weeks, Russian forces have invaded northeastern Ukraine, further pressuring Ukrainian defenses. Russian troops have also seized territory in the eastern Donetsk region.

Zelenskiy reiterated his call for the United States and other allies to accelerate military assistance.
