In a recent development, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has once again sparked a spy scandal in Europe. Federal prosecutors in Germany announced on Tuesday that a Chinese woman has been arrested for allegedly passing on intelligence to Beijing through CCP spies in Germany.
According to the federal prosecutor’s statement, the woman, identified as Yaqi X., was arrested on Monday in the eastern German city of Leipzig, with police also conducting searches at her apartment and workplace. Yaqi X. is suspected of working for a Chinese intelligence agency, providing information including flight details, passenger data, and information on goods, including military equipment.
As per German privacy laws, the suspect’s name has been disclosed to the public only as Yaqi X.
The statement revealed that the suspect was employed at a company providing logistics services, with service locations including Leipzig/Halle Airport. The airport is known for its operations in both passenger and cargo transportation, primarily recognized as a hub for cargo services.
The prosecutor’s statement highlighted that between August 2023 to mid-February this year, the suspect repeatedly passed on relevant information to a person named Jian Guo, a German of Chinese descent.
The information mainly included details on the transportation of military equipment and information about individuals associated with a German defense company. However, the prosecutor did not specify the name of the company.
Jian Guo, who had previously worked as an assistant to Maximilian Krah, a Member of the European Parliament for the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, was arrested in April on suspicion of engaging in espionage activities for the Chinese intelligence agency. He had been accused of sharing decision-making information of the European Parliament with the CCP, aiding in monitoring anti-CCP individuals in Germany.
At that time, this explosive CCP spy incident had shaken the AfD party in Germany, which ranked second in national opinion polls. A Member of the European Parliament urged for stricter actions against CCP and Russian infiltrators attempting to influence European Union democracy.
In another case in April, three Germans were arrested for allegedly engaging in espionage activities for the Chinese authorities and facilitating the transfer of potentially military-use technology information.
Furthermore, recent reports revealed that the CCP has been exposed for utilizing its relationship with Russia and Russian spy networks to recruit agents among anti-Western politicians in Europe.
On September 25, in an article titled “China Recruits New Spies in Europe” published by the German media outlet “Welt,” details were disclosed concerning the CCP’s maneuvers in recruiting fresh spies in Europe.
