Recently, a couple from Xihexian, Longnan City, Gansu Province, made a real-name report on social media that they were assaulted by a local bank employee and his family. “My husband’s face was stitched nearly twenty times, and my head seventeen times. We both have fractures and injuries all over our bodies, and we have been hospitalized for days,” which has attracted attention from netizens.
According to the report, the couple needed a loan for business expenses and approached Tian, an employee of the Agricultural Bank of China Xihexian Branch. Tian repeatedly harassed the wife, Zhao Yufeng, through WeChat under the pretext of the loan and even demanded to meet her alone before approving the loan. This led to a dispute between the husband, Du Hongbin, and Tian.
On the evening of July 28, 2024, Tian sent a text message claiming they needed to discuss the loan at his house. When the couple arrived at Tian’s house, Tian and his family of five locked them in a room and proceeded to physically assault and insult them. To prevent any recording, they smashed the couple’s phones and threatened to sell one of their properties to “deal” with them.
The couple was beaten until they lost consciousness, and Tian and his family staged the scene by destroying things in the house, then took out a kitchen knife and placed it in the husband’s hand, claiming to the police that the couple caused trouble when they arrived and were injured in self-defense. Tian had premeditated the crime.
From the video footage, it is evident that both the husband and wife had swollen and bruised faces, with the husband having stitches near his eye and the wife having bruising around her eyes and a bandaged forehead.
Medical imaging reports uploaded by the couple revealed that Zhao Yufeng had a fracture on the left side of the orbital medial wall, soft tissue swelling and gas accumulation in the left facial, sinusitis on both sides, and high-density shadow below the nasal skin.
After the video went viral, netizens were shocked and commented, “This is outrageous,” “Even a minor role can harm ordinary people so badly,” “If a bank employee can act so recklessly, in which country does this happen?” “This is terrifying,” “Taking no action will only fuel discontent,” “Alas! How should we view this era? Is it a matter of human nature or environment?”

Under public pressure, on August 7th, the Gansu Xihexian County joint investigation team announced that the involved parties, Tian, Tian Kui, and Liu Ying (Tian’s wife), had been administratively detained, and the county agricultural bank had suspended them.
However, some netizens argued, “Shouldn’t this be a criminal responsibility?” “Considering the severity of these injuries, shouldn’t this be considered a criminal offense?”
