Fujian Woman Accused of Theft Taken Away by Police and Detained in Pigpen for 12 Days

In a shocking incident in Huangshi Town, Putian City, Fujian Province, on March 1st, a woman named Song Meili, who had come to a matchmaker’s house to arrange a marriage for her son, was accused of theft by police officers who suddenly appeared. She was then taken to a pigsty in the mountains and detained for 12 days without any explanation from the authorities.

Recently, Song Meili made a public statement online declaring her intention to sue the director of the Husshi Police Station, Xu Biyang, for abusing his power, arbitrary arrests, and unlawful detention.

According to Song Meili, on March 1st, she went to the matchmaker’s house in Wendongxi village in Husshi Town with joyful anticipation of finding a match for her son. While she was sitting quietly at the matchmaker’s house, about seven or eight police officers in uniform claiming to be from the Husshi Police Station suddenly surrounded her without warning. They accused her of stealing at the matchmaker’s house and insisted on taking her to the police station for questioning.

As she was being taken out of the house, she saw more than twenty bystanders outside the door, and the police handed her over to these people. They forcibly dragged her into a car with her head covered and drove swiftly to an abandoned pigsty on the mountainside, where she was illegally detained for 12 days.

Describing her ordeal, Song Meili said, “The pigsty was dilapidated and reeked of a nauseating stench. Every night, I could only curl up alone in a cold corner. The old bed was about to collapse, and the daily food provided was plain rice with vegetables, which caused me severe discomfort. The experience of those 12 days was like an enduring nightmare, still haunting me today, leaving me terrified.”

On March 12th, Song Meili was finally released and allowed to return home.

“Afterwards, we have repeatedly reported the incident to the Husshi Police Station, but they have consistently refused to file a case and have not provided me with a reasonable and fair explanation. Therefore, I am going to publicly accuse the director of the Husshi Police Station, Xu Biyang, for his abuse of power, arbitrary actions, and ordering his subordinates to make random arrests and detain people,” she stated.

A reporter from Dajiyuan newspaper contacted the Husshi Police Station at 0594-5891110 to verify the situation. However, upon being asked about the incident involving Song Meili’s wrongful detention, the police officer on the line immediately dismissed the inquiry upon learning it was a journalist, claiming it was a wrong number.

Subsequent attempts to reach the Husshi Police Station were unsuccessful, as the calls could not be connected.

This troubling incident has raised concerns about the abuse of power and unlawful practices within law enforcement agencies, highlighting the need for fair and just treatment of individuals and accountability for those in positions of authority. The case of Song Meili serves as a stark reminder of the importance of protecting citizens’ rights and ensuring justice prevails in all circumstances.
