The Immigration Department of the Republic of China (Taiwan) stated that mainland Chinese spouse Liang Jinni, from Guangxi Province, China, has transitioned from a language barrier to becoming a radio host, showcasing the diversity of cultures with her voice and flavors in Taiwan.
In a press release by the Central District Affairs Brigade of the Immigration Department in Changhua County, it was mentioned that the warm and professional voice on air is none other than the new resident Liang Jinni. Born in Guangxi, China, she is currently the host of the “New Love for Taiwan” program on Guosheng Radio Station, where every Sunday she uses the microphone to share life stories of different ethnic groups growing and thriving in Taiwan, allowing these rich life experiences to be heard.
The Changhua County service station of the Immigration Department invited Liang Jinni to share her experience as a radio host, telling stories with the voices of new immigrant families, and together experiencing the traditional festive food “Momo” of the Zhuang people from Guangxi, connecting cultural memories through sound and taste.
During the event, Liang Jinni shared her journey from being a radio listener to a program host, narrating her experiences with broadcast work and voice expression, while also bringing a nostalgic taste – the traditional festival food “Momo” that the Zhuang people must eat during the New Year.
This dish made of glutinous rice and filling symbolizes abundance and Liang Jinni cleverly integrated messages on anti-fraud and human trafficking during the hands-on process, reminding everyone present not to be deceived. The atmosphere on-site was warm and lively, with laughter and cultural experiences intertwining into a beautiful feast.
Having been in Taiwan for 24 years, Liang Jinni recalled feeling helpless in the beginning due to loneliness and language barriers. She couldn’t speak a word of Taiwanese at first but made efforts to learn to communicate with her mother-in-law, laying the foundation for her future career in broadcasting. She once fell into a low point of missing her hometown and lost the joy of life, but thanks to the love and support of her husband, she made the decision to start anew and step out of her family circle.
Starting from a kindergarten administrative position, Liang Jinni also worked night shifts as a quality inspector in a tire factory, later engaging in volunteer services and serving as the executive director and chairman of an association, accompanying new immigrant friends in times of difficulty. Now, she has transformed this life experience into a source of strength in the airwaves, becoming an important companion and information platform for the new immigrant community.
Liang Jinni said, “Everyone has a unique story; every hometown flavor is a shape of longing, as well as a bridge connecting cultures. Through sound, we can not only convey warmth but also become a source of strength.”
Chen Junxuan, the station master of the Changhua County service station of the Immigration Department, expressed that Liang Jinni’s journey from a listener to a radio host, stringing together cross-cultural connections with her voice, showcases the power of diversity in the new immigrant community and the spirit of serving the community. He encourages new immigrant friends to continue growing through learning and to find their own stage in Taiwan. Applications for the 2025 academic year’s new immigrant and children empowerment scholarships will be accepted starting from February 23, 2026. Eligible individuals are welcome to prepare early and apply enthusiastically.
